I have been looking for some good devotional material to read with my 4 year old for a while now - so I thought that I would post this just in case anyone else was also looking for devotional material for young kids.
I was really happy when I found a gorgeous devotional book to do with my kids a few weeks ago from the Little Blessings line of children's books. It has been really great. I love looking into biblical principles with my 4 year old son. I love answering all his questions. I love watching him learn and repeat some of the ideas he has learned later. We already talked about God and his bible stories a lot. However, the devotional book is at exactly the right level for preschoolers and covers quite a few topics that I would probably have struggled to tell him about at his level of understanding. I can't wait until dd is old enough to understand more too - for the moment she loves the illustrations. The book is designed to cover a different bible verse every day for a year which is great for getting him used to reading scripture and understanding how it can be helpful to us. He wants to read so many days each time we read together that we have already covered lots of topics already. I think that I am a fairly tough critic when it comes to devotions and bible books for kids. This book is fantastic and really biblical except for one small part that risks giving impressionable kids the idea that God will save them from all bad things in this life (at the risk of setting them up for disappointment). But this lapse on the part of the author is totally out of character with the rest of the book where they definitely cover dealing with the hard things that happen in this life. So, overall I am a very happy customer since getting this book and really recommend this type of devotional book for anyone with a 3-5 year old - it is such a great age because they are so eager to learn.
