Ok, has anybody had this problem or know what may be going on? I'll try not to gross anybody out, but we're all women and I think we all can handle it. LOL

I gave birth to my son at the end of June this year. I stopped the post natal bleeding around the 21 of July. Then I started bleeding again for a "period" from 7/24 to 8/12. and then again bleeding from 8/17 to 8/23. That last time seemed more like my normal periods. Had a PMS time, sort of the right length and just generally more normal. However, I've yet to start my period again since then. And we haven't been using birth control, so I assumed I was pregnant. But I took 2 pregnancy tests about a week apart and they both said neg.

SO, am I probably pregnant and those tests just were done too early to tell? (I did the first test on 9/17-the day I should've started my next period). Or could my periods still be messed up from the pregnancy?

Any advice??
Thanks!

Angie are you breastfeeding your baby? Some women don't have periods all at when they do that. Stephanie :D

I pumped for 3 weeks (he had trouble latching on), but completely gave up everything since then. And I didn't pump much. he got about 3 oz a day of breastmilk. We supplemented with formula.

Angie, it's quite normal for postpartum lochia to start and stop for awhile. I didn't bleed much after my birth and thought that I was done bleeding after 9 days! Well, after that, it came and went for a few weeks! Also, if you aren't breastfeeding it's quite normally to have a longer and heavier discharge because breastfeeding contracts your uterus back down to size and reduces the amount of bleeding, generally.

Hope that helps.

hormones are crazy things.. i bled constantly for almost 2 months after our first.. i won't give you my whole story, but i did not become regular again before getting pregnant with this one, and they'll be almost exactly 3 years apart.. so what is that.. just over two years of irregularity?

give your body time to adjust back to not being pregnant. and of course, keep the communication open with your doctor! that's what those follow-up appts. are for :)

I was always weird cycle wise...but I didnt' even have a normal period for 5 months after my first! Then only 4 more in that period until got pregnant again 18 months later and then miscarried and then only 1 period after that miscarriage and was pregnant again 6 months later and due Dec......soooo anything can happen! If you're worried, check with your OB, but everything they told me should happen time wise never did. Awe, the joys of being a woman!

Thanks everyone for the advice and shared experiences. As of now, my OB/GYN thinks it's "common" to not have a period for a while after giving birth. But as of Tues of this coming week, it'll be two whole months that I haven't bled, so she said if I don't start by the end of Oct. I'm to go back in for further tests. I've taken 4 urine preg. tests and they all came back negative. and I'm having PMS symptoms without the bleeding like I did during my second pregnancy. The OB/GYN says there's a RARE chance that I could still be pregnant, but we have to basically wait and see. Hopefully more tests will show the truth, but you know that goes. I guess it's another lesson to let go and let God take control. :)

Thanks again! I'll keep you updated as to what we find out.

That's true, it is common to not have a period for awhile after giving birth. I think that I've read that it takes some bottlefeeding moms 2 1/2 to 3 months to get their cycles back.
