Well, really I am looking for advice from moms who have a one-year-old and a three-year-old or something close. I am running out of ideas on what kinds of toys/activities that my children can safely play together. They love each other and want to be together but most of my dd's toys are too small and are choke hazards. I can't allow her to take them out of her room. We have mostly baby toys in our den (aka playroom) but I was wondering if you all can come up with any more games, activities for them both to play? We are home all the time and I am afraid they are bored. I want to keep things fun so they will get along? KWIM?

I spend a lot of time reading stories to them and singing songs together. But sometimes I need to get a little housework done or "mama time" and I'd like to have something I can let them occupy themselves with too. TIA! :)

Whenever I need to get some things done around the house without the help of the wee little ones, I pull out some pots, wood spoons, measuring cups, etc. My 3 year old LOVES to pretend he's cooking & my 10 month old just enjoys banging the measuring cups & spoons onto the cookware. I especially like doing this when I'm in the kitchen trying to clean up...I just open up the cupboard door and let them go crazy with my cookware!

Flyswatters! Nope, I'm not joking! We went to a parade almost 2 wks ago and some people were handing out flyswatters. We ended up with 3 and ds (who is 8 mos) absolutely loves them! They're his favorite toy! Just make sure they haven't been used before!

Tara, sounds like we are on the same page. I've set all of those out before. I was looking for something maybe I haven't thought of. Oh and DS chews the cardboard off the boxes and tries to eat it. :P I just keep those in DD's room now so she can pretend shop with them.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Keep 'em coming! :)

Yeah blocks are great
activity mat (meant for little ones but my daughter (almost 3) will still lay down and play with her brother(almost 6 months) )
plastic plates (little tea sets or something like that)
stuffed animals (are great for tea parties  )
puzzles (the big ones, with big pieces sometimes wooden or plastic)
trains

They can also play individually
like my daughter colors while my son plays in his mat or with other toys his age, stuff like that

This is actually why I started the thread because the only time they will play by themselves is when the other one is not around. LOL  They think if they are together, they must play together. :D

My kids love the large legos (Duplos) ! The older ones can build while the younger ones chew on them. I have a 4,2, and 4 mo.

My kids love fisher price's little people and plastic animals. CHeck thrift store type places too, for used toys. Magnets on the fridge and coloring are great too.
