Well, I have been the wait and see mom on this, but now am taking my son to the ped. Actually, two Saturdays ago we took our 28 month old son to the ped because he was going on almost two weeks of runny diapers...no other sympotms and he was playing and eating...but I was just concerned. They told us what I thought--perhaps a stomach virus or some bug and it just takes longer in toddlers to get rid of. Well, this morning alone he's had 6 runny yucks. So, I am taking him back this afternoon. I hate to run ot the doctor for little things, but I am afraid of him dehydrating today. Maybe it is just molars or something simple...at least I hope that it is.

Aawh! Poor little guy! Hope he gets better soon. Let us know what the doc says. Probiotics are great...acidophilus. Can buy capsules and put them into food. Can get it in yogurt but yogurt has so much sugar! They work wonders are intestinal bugs!

Does he drink a lot of juice. I've heard that too much juice can cause runny poopys too.

It sounds like a stomach bug to me. I hope he is all better soon.
It could be his molars but to have 6 runny diapers in a small amount of time it sounds more like a tummy bug.
I know Abby always has runny diapers when she is teething and they smell worse too LOL

We actually have cut down on milk and cut out juice since the first few days this started...we knew that was a possible cause, too. We are doing pedialyte to help resotre things he may be losing.

He'd had 3 more yuckies by the time I picked him up today to go to the doctor.

The ped we saw today asked aobut where we had been, if anyone else was sick in the house or at the sitter or a my school, if we'd eaten any spinach...I said no to all of those things. He said he did not want to go with antibiotics yet because he wanted to rule out e coli and other things from a stool sample--if you give someone antibiotics, especially young children, and they have e coli that has not been diagnosed it can throw them into kidney failure--remember some of the things Renee was talking aobut with her friend? So, I took him back to the istter and brought back a diaper from the morning and they are going to run tests and cultures to see if that will tell us what is going on. If he is clear of anything like e coli then we'll look into antibiotics.

I also got to wondering if he got into the litter box or got near some dog feces in the yard, although we have been trying really hard to keep it clean...you just never know and now all of this doubt about how clean my house is and if the pets are harming my son is just a little overwhleming...I am sure part of it pregnancy hormoes, too.

I will keep you posted.

I just talked to my girlfriend today. her daughter had runny daipers for four months. She was tested for everything and it all came back negative. She had severe diaper rash and medicated creams did not even help. They finally put her on a med for a parasite (even though it was negative). The Dr. said sometimes they can just hang out in the stomach and not pass. She said that after a few days it worked. I can get the name of the med if you want me to. Just let me know. Good luck, Anna

Oh Chellefish I know all about those pregnancy hormones. Please don't blame yourself or think that your house or yard isn't clean enough. I'm sure it's not that.

I really hope that it's not E-Coli. Please keep us posted.

Do you have any cats? He could have Toxoplasmosis ... I'm not sure about the symptoms/signs of it but I know that most kids get it and you never know. I'm sure I've already had it as a kid. You can get it from the garden as well.

We do have a cat, but she is a strictly indoor cat, so she is at low risk for having Toxoplasmosis...she doesn't hunt for birds or mice that could be infected, but I did tell the doctor we had both a cat and a dog so hopefully they will look for anyhting that might be related to them.

He and Daddy are all snuggled up in our bed. I just finished watching ER and doing a load of laundry and am headed there soon, too. When I left school today to take him to the doc, I had already laid out plans for tomorrow just in case they told us to stay home...he doesn't have to stay home, but I am still thinking I may want to stay home with him. My husband thought of that too and told his owrk that he may not be in tomorrow...maybe we will have a bonding fest tomorrw!!

Well that's good. We have three outdoor/indoor cats and they all bring home birds and mice/rats and even eels  Today one of our cats brought home a duckling :( I really hate it when they kill ducklings. And I even just put flea collars with bells on them last night and Kitty managed to get his off.

Hopefully, the doctor's office will call tomorrow...it will be almost 96 hours, so surely results will be in by then.

He continues to eat and play and have no other symptoms. He had three diapers yesterday that were icky and just one so far today...maybe we are turning a tide!!

That's good! Hopefully it is just teething related. :D

No E. coli or anything else [claploud] and since he is doing better, we are just watching him and not intervening with any meds right now.

thanks for the words of encouragement for me and for the prayers that went up for Matthew!!
