Dd (20 months old) pooped in the toilet today! I feel a bit silly being so excited about this sort of thing - but sometimes the end of mountains of diapers seems so far off. We haven't been working on toilet training yet because I thought that she was a bit too young and that her verbal communication wasn't good enough yet to tell me what she wanted to do. But today she had a funny look on her face so I asked her if she wanted to sit on the potty. She was enthusiastic and ran ahead of me to the bathroom. It turned out that we only had the little kiddies toilet seat readily available at the time (it has been a while since ds used the potty), so I popped her up on that and she seemed quite happy. Then she pooped in the toilet. I didn't expect that . I was just trying to put the right ideas in her head. Maybe this is just a one-off because she is still quite young - but I was so proud of my little girl (and so pleased that she has no fear of the big toilet).

Awesome!

Whether it's a one time event or not...it's still a *start*. Good thinkin' mom! Just show her the path, if she's ready to take it now, she'll let you know. Good for you for watching her cues ;)

Hooray!! :D I've mentioned it before, but I managed to catch dd's early interest and she was trained just before 20mths! Go with it! It *is* possible!

Yay!! [claphigh] My DS hasn't had an accident during the day in about three weeks! I think we are good to go here...if we can just accomplish the overnights! ;)

That's encouraging. Could she communicate verbally that she needed to use the potty at this age?

Dd did it again this morning - but other times she just uses her diaper. I was thinking that we might only make limited progress until her verbal skills improve a little.

Congratulations to your little man too [claphigh]! Is he usually dry overnight? My little boy went without nappies overnight at the same time he trained during the day (because he insisted). He only ever had one accident in bed - not a big issue due to the mattress cover. I hope that it is just as easy for your little guy.

Yes, she could. Her verbal skills have been (and still are) a bit advanced compared to what I experienced with ds. When we first started, all she could say was "pee". lol. (Maybe "potty"....I can't remember.) But that was enough. With her, we started out with potty rewards right away because we were still phasing that out with ds. What an impact that had on her! :D Between her asking and me taking her at intervals if she didn't ask, after a few days we had eliminated most accidents. Because of her age, it was higher maintenance for several weeks, but now she initiates all the time on her own (at 26mths) and goes for several hours at a stretch. Sooooo worth the effort!

Oh, and I don't know what method you use, but fyi we just put a little seat on the big potty. We never used a little potty.
