Payton has always been a wonderful sleeper. He usually goes to bed in his crib at about 8 or 9 and sleeps until 5 or so. Lately he has become more mobile in his sleep, we find him completely turned the opposite way we lay him and he tends to get stuck in the corners then cries out to be rescued. Problem is that this is waking him up about 4 times a night, we retrieve him, he settles back into sleep only to repeat again a short time later. We are all more exhausted now than we have ever been.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it perhaps a short phase? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, we usually just lay a thin receiving blanket over him up to his waist (he is a tummy sleeper) but now that he moves so much could this be a hazard as far as him getting wrapped up in it?

Any experience or thoughts you would like to share would be great! TIA:)

no blankets, no bumpers, no stuffed animals - nothing in the crib! if you're afraid he's gonna be cold, put him in a blanket sack. you zip it onto him over his pjs and he can't get tangled in it!

Emma did this, but she was a lot older. We found that she woke up a lot because she was getting stuck in the slats and it hurt her, or woke her up. I actually had to put bumpers in with her when she was like 18 months old because of it. I agree that a sleep sack might help with warmth, and maybe even help him stay more put. If you don't have one, and think maybe his moving is getting him stuck or something, they have mesh bumpers that people use for smaller babies that keep the hands and feet in, but they can smoosh their faces into it and still breath.
Do you go into your babe's room when he wakes up so he sees you, or do you wait it out? Do you nurse/give a bottle at night? If not, is it possible he's getting hungry because of a growth spurt, he is still pretty young, and it's about growth spurt time.

I hope it's just a short phase. What a blessing that he's been such a good sleeper. Em didn't really sleep through the night...the whole night until she was about 19 or 20 months old.

Blessings,

This happened to us, too. We put ds in a sleep sack but his arms were getting caught in the crib. We ended up buying a crib tent. It has been great!
