View Full Version : can you tell what you're having???
cabingirl 07-17-2008, 11:28 PM Sorry I haven't posted in a while... I've been so busy...
Anyway, we didn't find out what we're having this time and I really wasn't that anxious about it til now. Now I'm just so curious!
Most people are saying that I'm having a boy because it's pretty different from my pregnancy with my dd. ie, I was so sick with her the whole time (no energy, throwing up everyday), this time it was just the first 3 months. Now I'm not sick and also have plenty of energy.
Also, I think I carried her lower than this one.
So, just wondering.... does anyone know if there's any proof to these theories??
The most common ones I get are that you're sick when preg with girls but not with boys. and... Girls carry lower than boys.
Also, when I was prego with dd she always had a high heart rate (like 150-160) So everyone said it was a girl cuz girls have high hr's in utero and boys are lower.... any truth???
Funny thing is that this baby has had a hr in the 150-160's all along, too.
So, just curious to see if anyone finds that these or other theories were true in telling the gender. Looking forward to your stories!!
Israel 07-18-2008, 12:07 AM I don't think there are any say "proof" to these theories.... However, I was NOT sick at all with ds (but I don't have any other children to compare him to). But, I was always told that the boys carried lower and protruded out more...where as girls kind of filled out the length of your torso. That's how it's been in my extended family anyway. It was fun not knowing what we were having...then we could play along with these old wives tales and complete surveys like this one: http://www.childbirth.org/articles/boyorgirl.html. Good luck to your tweet boy or girl!
PianoMama 07-18-2008, 12:21 AM Honestly, I wouldn't put any faith in the theories no matter who swears by them! Ha! I had MS with both my pregnancies, dd's was longer. I carried the same with both and both did drop toward the end. I had BH contrax with dd but not ds (she was the 2nd pregnancy). I delivered nearly on my 'due date' with both (not early or late enough to truly be early or late). My skin was horrible with both. Yadda, yadda...
:-)
Have fun guessing though! It's always fun!!
buttercup_97140 07-18-2008, 02:50 AM After my last pg I would have said there may have been something to those theories, but now that I am pg again, I have given that belief up! haa!!!
My pg with Em was total opposite as with Noah, but now my pg with Makelah is more like the one with Noah than Em.....The way I am carrying her, the sickness, my skin, pretty much everything with this girl is different than with the first girl!
Good thing we only have a certain amt of time before we find out huh? Even if 9 months seems to take forever!
Blessings,
Amber
I've got two boys, and carried both differently. I showed fairly early with my first preg., but with my second (when you "usually" show earlier), I was still wearing my jeans at 6 months! I had bad morning sickness with my first, and really bad morning sickness with my second. In some ways they were similar, but in other ways, so different! Personally, I figure every baby is different, so every pregnancy is going to be somewhat different, just differning degrees of "different". Looking forward to hearing whether you deliver a little boy or girl!
The most common thing I've heard amongst women who have had girls & boys has been that they had less to NO morning sickness when they carried their boys. The heartrate thing depends on their movement, not their sex... unfortunately! :) I carried this last girl SOOOO different than my others, the pregnancy was different in every way, and she was still a girl. Oy! :) hehehe I think not finding out is so exciting and I wish I had the patience for that! Ha!
~Tara~ 07-18-2008, 09:54 AM I was sick from #3 on. It lasted the longest with him. I was equally as sick with my girl(#4), though not for as long. About as sick with #5, though not as long as #3 but about the same as #4..that was another boy.
I did carry differently with the girl. I carried weight all over. I had a wide belly. I didn't *gain* a lot of weight, but it looked like I had gained more. My belly, hips, butt, calves, arms all plumped up. Never had any of that with the boys. Not to THAT extent anyway. Just minor stuff...with a basketball belly right out front. :p
Oh and I don't *think* my girls hr was that high. I'm wanting to think she lingered in the 140-145 range.
Skunkers 07-18-2008, 02:04 PM Nope. I'm always clueless!
My second pregnancy I was sure was a boy. Gained very little weight (14 lbs in all....& she was 8 lbs) Look like I had a basketball in my shirt.
I have been super sick w/ all of them, maybe less vomit w/ my DS but still feel icky. (kinda like w/ this pregnancy) W/ my girls I lost quite a bit of weight due to all the puke. So going by the past..I'm guessing boy this time.(or at least I was, now I'm thinking girl...I'm lost!!!!)...but, like I said..I'm clueless really. Everytime I think I know...something changes my mind.
Odds say girl:mrgreen:
pasloma 07-18-2008, 03:39 PM I have no idea...
All I can say is that everyone has been telling me my whole pregnancy that it's a girl because I am carrying her very high (not lower like they've been telling you... so well.... I think this is already confusing) then... as you probably read... we just found out that yes, we are having a girl.
Nobody ever told me they thought it was a boy...
But I guess every pregnancy is different....
Oh! and another thing... is that I've been sick most of my pregnancy... and according to most people... that's another "sign of a girl" but.... who knows?
Hugs!
Paloma.

Then heaven help me if I ever had a girl, LOL. I was soooo sick with my boys. Throwing up sick, every day, multiple times, for months :???:. Soooo, if that equates to less morning sickness....... eeeeewwww!LOL My mum was the same though when she was preg. with me (I'm an only child), so maybe it's more to do with each woman, not so much each baby?
It's kinda fun though, to try to guess depending on your "signs" and "symptoms", isn't it?:-D
I had no morning sickness at all with my dd, but had horrible nausea all day every day and a little bit of vomitting with my ds. So that blows all the theories out of the water.:-D
Ashlee 07-18-2008, 08:28 PM None of the theories have held up for me either. I thought for sure Gabriella was a boy because my pregnancy with her was so similiar to my pregnancy with Lawson and they were both pretty different then Brooke.
LadyLavender 07-18-2008, 09:16 PM Did anyone read Meg's post? I saw it like this........
blah blah blah blah STILL WEARING MY REGULAR JEANS WHEN I WAS SIX MONTHS PREGNANT blah blah blah blah
WHAT?! :o No fair!
[rofl]
LadyLavender 07-18-2008, 09:18 PM Oh, and now for the topic at hand- :)
My pregnancies were similar- no morning sickness, carried the same way. My pregnancy with the twins was actually easier- no high blood pressure/bed rest/induction. I gained 35 pounds both times. Same ol' same ol'.
Well, pregnancies with my ds and dd were completely opposite. The same morning sickness with both, however with ds it was very trigger oriented -not so much with dd. This pregnancy is completely different in that I was just naseous all the time, not throwing up like with the other two. Craving salty/sour with ds, sweets all the way with dd. This pregnancy it has flip flopped back and forth. 1st trimester was salty, 2nd sweet and now it seems to be a mixture of both although a bit milder on the sweets. Ds had a high heart rate, dd a lower one. This one is high again. So who knows. It's all a guessing game in the end I think. If I were pushed into a corner to guess this baby's gender I would probably say boy. Only one way to find out for sure! (since I don't find out in advance!) :D
love2bmommy 07-19-2008, 12:30 AM I wouldn't put any faith in those theories. I'm having a boy this time and I was way sicker this time than with dd and I'm carrying way lower. So low in fact that the ultrasound tech couldn't even get a look at my cervix with the regular probe (she had to use the vaginal one). It's completely different for each person!
cjropher 07-19-2008, 01:40 AM I was sick with my first (a boy) and then not really with my subsequent pregnancies (one boy, one girl). I did hear that the heart rate is somewhat accurate, but there is a huge overlap, so really, who knows!
I always wrestled with myself to not find out at the ultrasound. We never did, but I always kind of hoped they would let it slip.
One more way that you can kind of guess is with NFP. It seems that female sperm is hardier than male sperm. But male sperm swim faster. So if you bd right around O, then under normal circumstances, the male sperm would probably get there faster and so it would be a boy. But if you bd a few days before you O and then not again until all is good, chances are better for a girl, because the male sperm wouldn't last waiting for the egg. Of course there is a lot of room for error in this too, but hey, it's one more thing you can figure out... though giving those reasons around the water cooler at work might not be best! LOL
irishmum2boys 07-19-2008, 03:08 AM I had boys both times and two totally diffferent pregancies. I didn't find out the sex of our furst baby but had a feeling it was a boy :) I had a lot of m/s, high blood pressure, close to the end, borderline toxemic.
With ds 2 I had one day where I threw up and had some nausea. I had my gallbladder removed after ds1 was born, so i kinda wonder if that contributed to me being sick a lot during that pregnancy?
I was so sure ds 2 was going to be a girl, as it was so different, I even questioned the ultrasound technician when she said a boy and she actually drew a large arrow with boy pointing down at ds's private area :-D and she was right!
Well, blah, blah, blah to you too, LL! *giggle*[loveyou]
Seriously, it was only because I was so sick with that pregnancy, I lost heaps of weight, lol. When I started feeling better, and could keep food down, I popped. And boy, did I pop LOL! It was kinda crazy though. I was out with a friend who was due 2 weeks before me, and she obviously looked preg. People would refer to it, and she'd say "My friend is pregnant too, we're due 2 weeks apart." You should have seen the look on people's faces - I think a lot of them thought we were joking, LOL.

I had my gallbladder removed after my first pregnancy too... I never equated that with why I was as sick as I was with him... I even was on Dicletin with ds as I couldn't keep anything down. A huge difference with my later two. Hmmm We also thought that our second would be a girl because of how different the pregnancies had been to that point. By the time dd came along, I figured it must be a boy or a girl as I'd had one completely opposite pregnancy and one exactly the same! Labour was easier with DD if that helps at all! LOL
ChamomileFriend 07-19-2008, 03:39 PM The theories about belly shape and sickness didn't hold true for me, my bellies for both boys were round as could be (not pointy or football-shaped as some think you will be for a boy) and I was sick for both pregnancies, too. I was so sick with my 2nd pg, the girls at work and my aunt swore the techs must have made a mistake and that I really must be carrying a girl, not a boy - but a boy he has always been!
The part that was true for me was that both of their heart rates were within the "boy" range whenever the dr checked it with the doppler. Now I can't even remember if boy heartbeats are faster or slower, lol.
