View Full Version : There is no such thing as a nausea remedy!

So, of course I am still dealing with severe nausea and vomiting everyday which I can handle at home, but really stinks when I go to work!!

I just love the advice that we get:

eat small meals ,stay hydrated, eat/smell/ drink ginger, and the list goes on of course.

The sad reality is, at least for me, none of this actually works!! I don't mind the advice given out of help and concern, but its the people who tell you "oh this is what you need to do and you'll be fine" and out of respect you nod and say "yeah, I should try that" , knowing that you've tried all these things!! And not only are you still sick, but the ginger makes you nauseated just to think of!

Ok, I suppose I should have posted this under the topic for venting, but I am just SICK and frustrated.

And I finally got desperate enough to call my midwife today and was told to take unisom sleep tabs and B6 which I have read about online, but didn't know if it was a good idea. But the genius of that is... I am MOST nauseated at work! And I can't take sleeping pills at work!! So that piece of advice sent me weeping to my poor sweet husband who probably now feels more helpless than ever.

But what can ya say? It'll all be worth it in the end for this baby I am sure!!

Thanks for listening!

Well... this might not work for you, but with my last 3 pregnancies... I sucked on limes and drank sparkling water... and it did stave off the nausea for a while at a time. However... with my first pregnancy it did me absolutely no good. Nothing did me any good in that pregnancy... I dropped nearly 20 lbs in the first trimester of that pregnancy. Sorry you feel icky... hope it gets better soon!

I hear ya, girl!! One thing I heard during my last pregnancy (I know...you weren't looking for advice!) was that you could guzzle a full glass of water so you could throw it up then go eat something real and you're more likely to keep it down...JRBL, did you tell me you did that?? I know it sounds crazy, but it worked for me a few times. My solution was that I ate hardly anything. If I craved something, I ate it...a little of it. My MS was gone at 17 weeks. I hope things get better for you.

Other thoughts: you may try finding a candle smell that you like/can tolerate. Smells always set me off.

I know you felt like ginger didn't help, but there is a product called Ginger Chews by the Ginger People and it is really supposed to help. They give it to cancer patients a lot.

I tried everything there is with my first pregnancy (had it for 6 months straight) and the only thing that helped relieve my m/s was horchata (rice water).

hmm... horchata is not a bad idea, i have been eating steamed white rice and it has worked out really well for me.

I finally called my midwife the other day and they told me to try the unisom sleep tab/B6 combo. I have been taking that at night and am feeling about 90% better.

It has really helped, which I am glad for now that I will be working the graveyard shift at work for two weeks straight!!! Don't think I could have handled these shifts with the persistent nausea and vomiting!
