Okay, does anyone out there cut their boy toddlers hair with clippers and a guard for an all over buzz cut ??
HEEELLPP!! HOW do you get them still...my baby straight jacket is on back order! *wink, wink* He's 18 months old ...and NEVER stops moving!
Also, any tips for getting a good cut so it doesn't *look* like mommy's first attempt to be cheap?? He has very, very thin and fine hair...no curl!Hehe!? Oy!

I don't use clippers cause the noise scares him.
I cut my DS hair. Have him read a book, watch a show or have a sibling sit in front of him & talk/do something w/ him.
Sorry I have no advice on the clippers:(

Sorry, mine have all done rather well with the clippers idea. I just have them stand, I hold their chin/cheeks in one hand then buzz with the other.
As for making it not look like a mom job..um..not sure I'm real good at that part. Other than doing it all with ONE guard teehee I do generally use 2 guards though. A 6 and 4 or 4 and 3 (because my 2 is broken :p ) I do the top and into the sides and back with the larger then go around with the shorter. Sometimes it helps to use the longer guard on the shortest setting and the shorter on the longest setting and they fade in to one another pretty well.
Right now my clippers need sharpened (or the way we do things...replaced) because they're leaving trails. *rolls eyes*
For keeping him still..um..a video? bribery? sucker..if he'll keep it in his mouth teehee otherwise you end up with bigger problems on your hands..hair on sucker = not a happy camper

We have one person using clippers to cut the hair while the other person holds the kid's head!! One kid does fine without needing his head held, he used to enjoy looking in a handheld mirror while his hair was getting cut.

Lawson used to be amazing when I cut his hair. I think it helped that he saw Daddy getting his hair cut (I do dh's too). Anyway he recently started giving me a hard time because he gets so itchy from the hair falling onto his neck and shoulders. So I need to get a hair cutting cape thing for him to keep the hair off him. And as for what guards I use.. its different everytime I think. I can never remember what one to start with. But I try making the top a bit longer and gradually blending into the sides. It usually turns out alright.. I think. I know I'm not much help, sorry.:)

Well, I just use sissors, but I've cut Timmys hair since he was little. It is hard. I find that if he's watching a movie or show (best if it's something he's never seen before) he sits still better. Or one time I pretended it was a barber shop and talked to him in a funny voice, and called him Mr., he liked that a lot. Also a candy cane or sucker sometimes helps (only let them eat it if they're sitting still, and do the cut right after lunch or dinner). I think that's all my ideas.... oh wait when he was small one time I let him play in the sink water while I cut. He loved that all of one time! lol.

We sport the buzz cut around here. Up until recently I always strapped them in the highchair with the promise of a bribe and a favorite show on the tube. Now that my little one is a little bigger I sit him on a chair and slide my old ring sling around him and the chair and use it as a seat belt. Then I pin his head to the side of the chair as I do the sides.
As for my fine haired fellow ds#1 in the summer he is a 2 all over and then every other cut I just do his sides a 2 and leave the top alone to let it grow a little more. Winter he is more of a 5 on top 3 on the sides kind of guy. But he is my trouble maker when it comes to hair cuts I only cut his ear once I don't know why he is so worried ;) So if we are having a hard time I automatically go to the same length for the whole head.

I used to cut hair and have nephews that sport the buzz as well. If you are doing and all over buzz it is not going to look like "moms first cut" the guard is there to keep it all even you will have to look afterwards for little strays and then just run the buzzer over them. If the tv is in sight put in his fav video. That is the best idea I can offer.
