Are any of you homeschoolers or private school parents familiar with the ACE curriculum? If so, can you explain it? Do you like it/not? Why?
I am familiar with Saxxon, Abeka, Bob Jones and love them all....not familiar with this curriculum though we are looking at with a new private school for Kindergarten this next fall.....looking for insight! Want good phonics/reading basics and good math basics...
Thanks in advance for any help!

A friend has lent me the ACE kindergarden curriculum but I haven't really looked into it yet. I've heard good things about it. I'm wanting to see what others think of it as well.

I have always used ACA. I have found it great for me with lots of children close in age.
I can just get them working on PACES once they are reading well enough. All the boys are reading very well and can not wait for the next box of PACES to come. I know some people that stick to the curriculum very strictly. I am not for that personally for us it's about enjoying being together and learning and having fun. I have never used the kindergarten curriculum but know one lady who has. She liked doing that with all her children.
My daughter Amber started in grade 2 when she was 7yrs old. She did go to school for 2 yrs but slipped right in to the PACE work no problems. I started the boys when they were 6-7 yrs old on Ace and they love it.
I hope you find the right curriculum for your children.
Andrea

So is ACE paced curriculum that you can go at your own learning speed?
Totally NOT trying to be cruddy here...I don't even know how it was taught, what the curriculum they used was, etc!! Huge things! LOL....but a couple of friends of mine used paced curriculum in their private school and compared to the Bob Jones/Saxxon/Abeka curriculum, it was not nearly as demanding or challenging and they were not as progressed when they tried to switch over schools a few years later....
Is this paced curriculum challanging? If you're familiar with Bob Jones, would you rank it in toughness of material to be learned with them?
Sorry so many questions! This is ALLLL SOOO much to take in...and not being a teacher myself makes it harder! Oy! I just want to be sure we choose the best path for the boys since we have to scrape the money so much to get them a Christian education...I can't waste a moment!

Well like I said before I've always used ACE. I've seen other curriculum like Rod & staff, A Bekka but I have never taught any of it. All of the other HomeSchoolers I know teach a wide range of curriculum. Some people say that ACE isn't as good as others but I can only go off what my Kids are learning. Mine have always gone at there own speed. Samuel started a year before Josiah did. But now Josiah is ahead in some things because he can't get enough of that subject. So it's all at there own speed and I'm happy about that.
I know it's hard to take in. I suppose that's why I originally chose a curriculum that was all set out, because it is difficult choosing in the beginning.
Can you go to a Home Schooling show near you. Where you can look at different curriculum and ask about it. We have one once a year where I come from in Australia. Some conferences too but I don't go to many of them as I don’t need to be convinced of the benefits of Home schooling.
I know some Mums that started with ACE and then switched to other things, and some Mums that did other stuff in the younger years then switched to ACE when there children were teens.
I'm sorry that I can not help more than that. As that's what I've always done.
God Bless Andrea.
