I am looking for some help with the subject of kids and communion. I would not like to debate this topic at all, just looking for some information. Mady is 5 and Emma is 3 1/2. We have communion the first sunday of every month. Mady understands quite a bit for her age and dh and I are wanting to start teaching both of the girls what communion means and how special it is. Can anyone suggest and age appropriate book to help us do so. I would greatly appreciate it.

The last church I went to didnt allow children to take communion but I gave it to them when I sat down. We share the Lord's supper in our home, I mean we break bread in our home, not regularly but sometimes. My kids understand, to the extent that kids can understand. Mine are 9 and 7. I personally feel that if they are christians why shouldnt they partake in breaking of bread? My ds who is 7 takes it very seriously. I was always of the opinion that if a child asks about it and is refused what impression will that leave when they are grown. I personally welcomed my children to the table when we are breaking bread. i dont know of any biblical reason why they cant partake in it... personally. Kids LOVE to be involved in that stuff! Suffer not the little children to come to me. I couldnt deny them.

ok sorry editing to say that I only skimmed your post and replied to hastily. The only book I can recommend is a good children's bible. I go over the breaking of bread verses and explain to them as I do what it means. Yours are younger so making it age appropriate to their understanding. LaDonna, the best thing to do is first maybe study are reflect on what the last supper means to you, then teaching your children with the wisdom the Lord gives you. I would not spend money on anything else for it or anything i want to teach my kids about the Lord. I can and do teach them all that I know, we explore our relationship with Christ together, as a family. I had struggled with this for years bc we couldnt afford any kind of material for 'teaching' them about the bible and Christ. We were blessed with a children's bible and the Lord is blessing me as I press into him, showing me how to teach my children by example and sharing the word together.

hth.
