Benny and Mary died. Their green anoles.

Just *snap* and they were gone.
I have a couple of hurtin' boys right now. One very much so, as he was their primary caregiver. The other is still trying to act like he's 'okay', though tears have been shed.

(full story on my blog (didn't I just say that? LOL) )

I did see that also when I read about your shopping trip. So sorry. It does hurt when out little freinds die.
I hope their hearts heal soon.

Aww poor little guys, its hard to lose a pet no matter what it/they are.

We had anoles, we currently have a fence lizard, we caught about 5 lizards in the wild (2 were anoles) and used them for science projects this year. Anoles are everywhere in Florida, we walk outside and the boys want me to keep catching them, argh. We released if they looked sad. Plus getting crickets for 5 lizards was a bit tiresome.

Anyway my only thought on this may have been the placement of the terrarium? I know we have lost crickets with the placement of them in the sun, hence it making the temp really hot than poof they were dead. But you said it was in the shade, so I don't know.

Sorry Tara, hope their little hearts heal soon.

I've come to the unprofessional conclusion they died of heat stroke.

They had become acclimated to living in the house, which is considerably cooler than outside. Then once taken outside, even in the shade, it was much warmer than indoors and their little bodies could not adjust quickly enough.

Sound logical enough?

I was thinking, since they do enjoy being outdoors...the fresh air, sunshine...hehe..that perhaps in order to still allow that but better protect future friends..that we put them in a shallow dish of water THEN place them in the shade outdoors. The water acting as an extra cushion against the drastic temp change. Ya think?

I'm sure we'll come home with a couple more anoles Sunday. There are lots of them running around the church/school. :p The kids catch them every week. And every week I say..no, no more, 2 is all our terrarium can hold. :p

Oh, yeah, Renee...the crickets...we lost a whole bag of them due to the sun :p

How many crickets to/did your anoles eat? Ours waffle(d). Trying to figure out how normal that is.

I think you are right. Maybe next time just squirt them before taking them out, that's what we do and its works fine.

Anyway, our anoles were very picky eaters. Our fence lizard we have eats anything alive or dead which I love! The anoles crickets had to be the right size and moving for them to eat. But they are so cool to watch! My kids love our lizard its belly and neck turn blue when he is happy.

I put about 2 small crickets in each day. That made them happy. I also noticed we did better with one per tank because when we did 2 the one ate the others meals sometimes. If you do 2 make sure they are the same size maybe.

We are heading out in a few minutes because we need some crickets, he he. I said we better go the lizard is starting to chew on his back legs, (kidding of course he isn't)

That's tough... I accidentally scalded my newt while cleaning his tank when I was about 11. I... felt... terrible. Hope their little hearts heal quickly.
