Lawson took his first step on Tuesday.. but hasn't taken a step since. I think its a confidence thing. I just set him down in the hallway and he didn't really realize I had let go when he took his first step forward.. as soon as he realized I wasn't holding his hand he sat down. He just turned 9 months old so I'm not in any rush for him to walk, although I did expect him to be an early walker since he's been walking around the furniture since he was about 5 months. How did you all give your babies the confidence to let go and keep taking steps?

aww hehe
hmm, what *have* we done???
I think we just gently hold their fingers..don't let them hold us, we hold them..and lead them on. This then leads to us barely holding only one hand as we stand in front of them encouraging them to keep coming toward us.
Those moments are really a blur to me at this point LOL
I just remember my now 7yo...when he was 9 months old...crawling onto the coffee table and dancing! LOL he was crawling then in what seemed like a week he was running and climbing.

Sigh. My son just started walking at 17 months, which was a shock because he has been cruising since 10 months. I really couldn't find a way to encourage him; he had no interest in using a walk-behind toy or walking holding onto our fingers until a couple weeks before he actually started walking. He just wasn't ready yet, but when he was he just got up one day and ran across the room!

With my dd i would walk around with her holding her hand and would encourage her to walk to daddy when she was standing. She would take like one or two steps and that was it for a couple of months it was like that. I think everybody just walks on their own time, kwim? It's not really something that you can do they just have to get it on their own. Anyhow, my dd started to stand up when she was like 7 months so i thought she was going to be an early walker but she actually started walking at 13 months. Not that late anyway, IMO but everybody made a big deal and said she should be walking by then which really bugged me :x . I was like hey she'll be walking by the time she is 5, so don't worry about it. Same thing with potty training but that is another story. Sorry if off topic  just a little rant. So no pressure you're little one will be walking soon and then when your ds is getting into everything you'll be wondering why you wanted him to walk so bad in the first place.
