View Full Version : Wind-Up Swings
Aalena 09-13-2006, 01:35 PM My dh and I want to buy a swing for the baby that is a wind-up instead of battery operated. Do any of you have these? Do you like them? Do you know where to find one? I've looked numerous places and all I can find are the battery operated ones.
Thanks!
LaDonna 09-13-2006, 01:54 PM Try resale shops or even goodwill. I love going to these stores to find things for my kids and sometimes find some really good deals on name brand stuff. Good Luck. With our first DD who is 3 1/2 we used a wind up swing and for our youngest DD who is 22 mths we used a battery operated swing. Either one of the are good.
Crissyanna 09-13-2006, 03:22 PM My MIL offered to get me a wind up swing at a garage sale. I declined as I figured I would have to constantly be winding the thing up. A friend of mine is going to lend me hers, and I think it is battery operated. We use rechargeable batteries, so I don't think it will be too much of a problem.
Now, the swing I really want (ok, basically I'm coveting it) is made by Fisher Price and it is battery operated, but it comes with a d/c converter so you can plug it into a standard outlet!!!! We really can't afford it right now, but I can dream, right?
Aalena 09-13-2006, 03:39 PM Really, they make one that plugs in? I will check that one out. Maybe my mom would buy it as a gift.
A friend told dh that the only way to go was wind-up. So, dh will only go with wind-up for plug-in. But I didn't know they made some that plug in.
JoyLynn 09-13-2006, 04:27 PM Wow, I didn't know they made a plug-in. Cool! :D I had a wind-up and absolutely loved it. It went forever. A plug-in would have been convenient, too, as long as you're near an outlet.

Crissyanna 09-13-2006, 04:35 PM Here is the plug in swing. It can also run on batteries. This is on Wal-Mart's site, but I know you may be able to find it elsewhere. Wal-Mart doesn't stock it in the stores, it is only online. However, who knows where you may find it. My only question is why did I think of this to market? It is so simple of an idea!!!!!!

kanaclark 09-13-2006, 09:34 PM we had a battery swing with Bri and used it all the time, and honestly, we only used two sets of batteries for it the entire I'd say nine months we used it for him and they were dollar general batteries.
so batteries are not a big deal with them.
Someone has given me a battery operated swing, but since she got it somewhere in Australia - the only thing I can think of is try ebay.
Kensbev 09-14-2006, 10:23 PM I always check eBay, lol, and I found MANY of them, like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-arrival-GRACO-QUIET-BABY-WIND-UP-WIND-UP-SWING_W0QQitemZ280026818242QQihZ018QQcategoryZ2990 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.
Before you buy ANY swing, please check its reviews on Epinions (www.epinions.com), that way you can make an informed choice. I didn't register for a swing with my first, but I got lucky! A couple of my aunts went in together and bought me one. And that thing is da BOMB! One set of batteries lasted for Audrey's entire infancy and halfway through Tory's. It might have lasted longer, but Audrey tends to walk by the swing, crank it up to full speed (whether her sister is in it or not) and start the music. I seriously don't know if we're going to make it until Tory outgrows the swing before we have to buy new batteries again, lol!
Aalena 09-15-2006, 07:44 AM Thanks for the advice. I looked the swings up on epinions before I did anything and found the Graco swing, but I don't think they make it any more. I checked on eBay last week and couldn't find any - I must have typed it in wrong then because nothing came up.
DH looked yesterday and found them -
So, we went ahead and ordered it. It's new in the box and the seller had a very good rating. It should be here next week.
While we were at it, we looked at strollers (travel systems). We found one by Graco on there that was $60 cheaper than the store and that included shipping. It's brand new in the box, too. We have one store that carrries them so I stopped last night to look at it before we bought it. I really liked it. So, I came home and ordered it. We're very happy. Graco rates very well in Consumer Reports on strollers and car seats. It should be here early next week since it's coming from Ohio. It was just far enough of a drive where the shipping was still worth it.
