View Full Version : Swimming in Diapers?
Cheeseburger 09-12-2006, 10:44 PM I would really like to get back to swimming... to help shed baby poundage! Our baby Katherine is 3 1/2 months old now, when she is about five months my hubby and I plan to go swimming, once she has better head control. I just want to know - how do swim diapers work? DO they work? Doesn't the urine leak out into the pool, or the poolwater get soaked up in the diaper?? I don't want to get out of a pool with my baby with a diaper down to her knees!!
Does anyone know which brand of swim diapers are the best (resuable/disposable??)
Thanks.
We used the Huggies brand swimmers. They don't absorb at all, inside or out, but they seem to keep it contained while swimming for an hour or two.
breezykc2 09-13-2006, 12:17 AM swim diapers hold in number 2 as long as you catch it and change them immediatly basically it seems...any brand disposable or or reusable....they don't absorb much of anything pee or pool water wise....for that reason we use the resuable/washable ones to save money and you just rinse and wash and dry...you can buy them at Target or OneStepAhead.com
Godzgirl 09-13-2006, 12:26 AM I've used the huggies swimmers and they have worked just fine for us. :)
Yes I can vouch for the "little swimmers" I used them on my twins and found them fantastic. They do hold in the urine but you have to change them as soon as you are out of the water and put on another one.
Not sure about the reusable ones, never tried them or know anyone that has.
I used the "little swimmers" with Aaron. They worked well for me. I always changed them when he got out and put a new on on. I have never used the reusable ones though.
I use the reusable ones! I got mine at Toys R Us. It was like 5 bucks for one, but that's less than a whole pack of little swimmers. you just wash it in the machine.
swim diapers are meant to hold in poo.
yes, the urine goes into the pool. that's what chlorine is for!

Yuck!! Maybe I won't go swimming.
7thHeaven 09-22-2006, 05:14 PM We use the Huggies Swimmers and they work great! But yeah, you do have to keep an eye on the poo issue.
Cheeseburger it's very likely that A LOT of adults and older kids pee in the pool anyway so I wouldn't worry about baby.
I remember a rathing disturbing email I got once about just how many litres of urine are in swimming pools. EWWW
BlessedMommy 12-31-2006, 10:36 PM I just read that the Bumkins AIO's can be used as swim diapers! Way cool since I already have a couple of them!
MomFromCanada 01-01-2007, 06:39 PM We also use Huggies Swimmers. They are great. They tear open at the sides like a regular diaper when you are done using them. (I wish someone had have told me that!) They do retain a lot of water and I find once you have the swimmer diaper off be prepared with another regular diaper right away because once babies are exposed to cold air you might have a little accident if you know what I mean!
jessgr 01-01-2007, 06:53 PM You should also check with the pool that you are going to be swimming at. Many of the local pools here will not let disposable swim diapers into them. They only let the non-disposable ones in. We picked them up from Target this past summer and they are a nylon cloth like material on the outside with elastic legs and waistband so that nothing non-liquidy can sneak out!
Kensbev 01-01-2007, 11:25 PM Not to be gross or anything, but don't you remember being a little kid? And having so much fun swimming that you just forgot about having to go until it was too late? I think that happens a lot. I know they also sell reuseable swim diapers on Diarperaps.com. I love those folks! :)
We take Ash to swim class and the Huggies seem to work well. I think we may have used Pampers too.
They told us at the pool that you are to alert them if they do poo, because it will still contaimenate the water and they will have to add extra chemicals to the water. As for pee, I don't know, except that I always used a pair of plastic pants on top of the swim diaper and then Ash's swim trunks.
Once when changing him, I pulled down his pants and it was full of pee.
It seemed to be held in pretty good.
RhysMom 01-03-2007, 01:43 PM I found a pair of reusable ones at Target and they work just fine. Like everyone else is saying, urine goes into the water for the most part and the poo stays trapped. I would rather the urine go in the water then the poo!
