DD has had a fever for 3 days now. I can get it down with Motrin, but she's just not herself. Today I took her into the dr. and he didn't see anything wrong with her. But he did say maybe I could try to get a urine sample. Yeah, easy stuff with a 9 month old! LOL

They gave me the special bag and all, no luck yet, I'll try again tomorrow. Sigh. But I'm a little worried about this. We always wipe front to back on her. I kind of think this came from last weeks little kefuffle with the formula and feeding and all that. She didn't have a wet diaper for a day and then bang, this hits this week. I think it's likely related.

That being said, I want to avoid a/b. I never had yeast infections or UTI's as a child or a teenager. My first yeast infection was when I came off a/b at the same time as my period. After that, I got them a lot and am still a bit prone to them. Now I get the odd UTI too, but I never never used too. If she were older, I would be giving her water and cranberry juice to beat the band. She's 9 months. What do I do so that a/b won't be necessary and we can take care of this? How can I prevent it from happening? I know how hard these things are to get rid of in myself, I can only imagine a baby.

As for the sample. Well I'll try again tomorrow like I said. Should be fun. Terrible little bags they give you. Guess it means a trip to the lab to drop it off tomorrow anyway. Maybe her fever will break and she'll be herself tomorrow and then I won't have to worry about it. Sigh!

Praying you find out what it is soon and that dd is ok! If it is a UTI I hope it is caught before it goes to her kidneys.

When I had to get a urine sample from ds the drs office gave us a special bag that sticks to the area, then we put him in his diaper with the bag on - did they give you that kind of bag? I just left it on him until he went.

Does she have a rash? It may be roseola. When my girls were about this age they ran a pretty high rever for a few days with no other symptoms, then broke out in a blotchy spotted rash, then they were fine. Check her tummy for the rash. If she had a UTI, she would probably be a lot more cranky and not sleeping well. Praying for your little one!

Those pee bags are fun, aren't they? My DS would fill his full within 10 minutes because he drank all the time but DD was another story. I don't think we ever got a sample from her!

Best of luck and I hope she's better soon.

Well, she dribbled in the bag and the lab said it was enough. So it's there being tested. I don't think it's a UTI. I've had them. I wasn't as happy as she is! LOL. Also, her urine as as clear as water. Seriously, I could have filled it from the tap. I think they would have figured that out though.

She seems better today. Could this be teething? It looks like one is coming through, but a fever for 4 days now on and off? That can't be normal. I'm a little worried that if they don't find anything wrong, I'm going to be sent for bloodwork and all sorts of tests. Don't really want that to happen. Hmm

In other news, our phone is acting up, so I might not know if they call anyway! LOL

But back to my main questions, is there any preventative measures I can take to avoid a UTI in her or to help her get over one if she does get it? Just for future reference.

I was at a baby shower last night and the ladies I was sitting with both have daughters and have had to have them pee in a bag numerous times. I would like to avoid ever having to fill one of those again if I can help it. So what can I do. Like I said, I already wipe from front to back. Anything else?

when she gets a little older you can do probiotics, which help with yeast. soy yogurt is probably your best bet.

you may be able to do a little cranberry juice (make sure it's really juice, not just cranberry 'drink') right now. is she already drinking juices?

I think I remember you aren't supposed to do bubble baths either because it inflames.

I did know about the bubble bath... I remember my mom buying me some and my dad reminding her that it was hard on little girls! LOL. I never did have an issue with that.

We don't have good water. We live on an acreage and have water from a dugout which has coliforms (or something like that, it's not e-coli but it could be a b c and d I guess???) anyway, it has these micro-organisms, so we don't drink it or cook with it. But we do wash with it. Should I be more careful with that too do you think?

She has drank a bit of apple juice. I was afraid that cranberry might be too hard on her little tummy, even if it was diluted.

Before she was born, people would ask if I wanted a boy (it would make 3 boys for me) or a girl. My stock answer was always, "I fear what I know and I fear what I don't know." How right I was! LOL

I pray it's not a UTI.

My Dd had Roseola last year and ran a med-high grade fever for 7 days. Could be a possibility too.

I haven't heard back from the clinic but I bet it's isn't. Dh gave her a bath tonight and she had a rash on her chest and back. Sigh, I checked the symptoms and it pretty much fit her to a T. LOL My dr. asked if she had a rash but I said no as I hadn't noticed and because when he said rash, I thought only of a diaper rash. Must be functioning on reduced sleep LOL. But I hadn't noticed anyway.

So thanks, looks like that's what it is. I'd still welcome suggestions on preventing and treating UTI's though as after my friends were all saying their little girls had them, I'm kind of worried. I know how miserable they are and I don't want to have to get her a/b all the time.

Thanks!

Good news is if it is Roseola which is what it sounds like the appearance of the rash is the final stage. It doesn't show up until the very end. Praying that it is.

I'm all for ideas on how to prevent UTIs too since I have two daughters.

No call from the clinic which likely means that she doesn't have a UTI. The rash is still there. She got in in textbook fashion, on her trunk first and then moving to her extremities. Her legs are clear and her arms pretty much, but it's on her face a bit now. I think it should be gone by Monday though, as she finally needed no Motrin or Tylenol today for the first time in a few days. Yay! So we're getting there. S-L-O_W_L_Y!!!!
