I think Autumn (she's 5) is getting a yeast infection. She has been on antibotics for 9 days now and she's been eating and drinking lots of yogurt (which usually keeps yeast infections away) but this morning told me her privates are itching so I checked her. She's a little pink down there so I think she may be getting a yeast infection. What can I use on her? Thanks, Stephanie :D

My oldest is quite prone to them, and we use the yeast infection cream they sell OTC for women. Instead of putting it in the tube and all that, I just put some on my fingertips and rub it over her bottom, like diaper rash cream.

brewer's yeast tablets
Found in the vitamin section at WalMart or wherever. Have her take 2 tablets every 4 hrs for 24 hours. (during the waking hours will be sufficient, no need to wake during the night and mess with it) That should get it clearing up. Then 1 tablet every 4 hrs the next day or two. And have her go without undies if possible to let things dry out.

Of course, this is if she can swallow pills. She wouldn't want to chew these *ick*

**I have used this myself on a handful of occasions and it works wonders. It's not exactly speedy, but when caught promptly, it works as fast as anything else and it's natural :) If it's a hard, full bown, infection by the time brewer's yeast is started, it will take longer to notice improvement and you'll still have some itching. When caught soon, this clears things up and there's barely even any itching. I gave what *I* would use for a child that age...for adults you take I think it's 3 or 4 tablets every 2 hrs ?? Something really 'insane' which I never followed...I follow 2 or 3 tablets, every 4 hrs the first day (2 days if especially nasty) and 1 or 2 tablets every 4-6 hr the next 2 days.

Nilstat or Nystatin cream. I think you have to ask for it, but it's very cheap and it works wonders!

I agree the OTC stuff!!

Also not sure if you have YAKULT in the US? It's a pro biotic drink.

I would do that and the OTC cream - there is nothing worse than being uncomfortable like that

Something that may help is to make her some wipes soaked in 2 cups of boiled water and either a 2 tbsp or white vinegar or a few drops of Tea Tree Oil. Both are anti-fungal and anti-septic, which helps keep yeast at bay. You can just fill an old baby wipe container or a rubbermade container with the wipes and the solution, and have her wip with those instead of toilet paper.

Yeah, I remember having one when I was younger and having to do that myself...I think I was like, 7 or something...I remember it worked very well. It's no fun though...(well, obviously) but using that cream stuff does work.
