This may sound like a really stupid question  but I wanted to know, can you still go swimming at the beach if you are breastfeeding? Or swimming at all?

Or swimming at all? stephwhiz 09-10-2006, 10:49 PM I think it is okay...never thought about it. I would just make sure to clean my nipples good before breastfeeding. Stephanie :D 09-10-2006, 11:11 PM is there any potential at all for something embarassing to happen though??? ~Tara~ 09-11-2006, 10:00 AM Yes you can still go swimming. What *embarrassing* moment are you thinking? Of course, one can't very well bf while there in a one piece suit. Those tankinis are sure nice for this purpose...2 piece, but offer more coverage ;) You know, if you don't want a complete cover-up on. As mentioned previously, make sure you're clean. Which, you wouldn't be putting sunscreen around there so that's good hehehe Then depending on where you're swimming...a pool, I wouldn't worry about a thing. Salty water, ya might want to give things a quick rinse. Just kinda murky water...rinse then too. A baby wipe would probably do just fine. I can't think of any potential embarrasing situations...other than br*ast exposure, which isn't really any higher in this situation IMO than any other. 09-12-2006, 05:14 AM I was worried about milk leaking through the swim suit I guess. I had a friend who told me she had such an overload of milk she had to put nappies in her bra until it sorted out   ~Tara~ 09-12-2006, 09:29 AM well, as long as you nurse the baby before going and aren't there for 4 hrs without nursing, I'd think you'd be alright :) I leak a LOT..but it's only from the opposite side while nursing. The only time I leak otherwise is if it's been a long time between feeds. HTH oh, and should you happen to leak while out..that's when you just jump in and get wet so no one can notice hehehehe 09-13-2006, 01:38 AM Tara - and just hope that sharks aren't attracted to breastmilk ROTF ~Tara~ 09-13-2006, 09:52 AM LOL now THAT was funny Springtime 09-13-2006, 02:58 PM My first time breastfeeding I leaked all over the place for 3 months   I guess to go swimming you could put on nursing pads... once your wet... well just don't use a dark colored bathing suit and it shouldn't show... Ashlee 09-14-2006, 01:32 AM I leaked really bad for the first few months too. I think once your milk supply is established you should be fine.. or you can just wear a padded bikini top, that will absorb any leaks.. just an idea! :D 09-14-2006, 04:42 AM I know this is soooo immature, and I am not sure if any of you know that Tim Finn song "I spent 6 months in a leaky boat" Reading the accounts made that song come into my head but the words switched too "I spent 6 weeks with a leaky boob". I can't stop laughing, how immature of me LOL. Ashlee 09-14-2006, 10:02 AM [rofl] BlessedMommy 09-17-2006, 01:18 PM I have a bathing suit that is basically like a short dress made out of bathing suit fabric over leggings. So I imagine that I could just pull up the top and tuck the baby underneath. There's enough fabric anyway. It was made by a Mennonite clothing company. |
