So DD was being fussy at mealtime, not wanting to eat her food, fussing, screaming, etc. So that led to her removal from the table to her bed. DH said, "Just bring the food out at the next meal, and be persistent, don't give her anything else until she eats it."

So at the next meal, I brought the veggies out. Hannah was going to the refrigerator and whining, "Hungry!" I said, "After you finish your veggies from the last meal, then you can have something else. But you have to eat the veggies first, since you wouldn't eat them at the last meal."

It took a lot of perseverance, but eventually I just put her in her bed with the bowl of veggies and walked away. Lo, and behold, I came back and found a toddler with a mouth full of peas and broccoli, lol. And later when I came back, the bowl was cleaned out, so she got to eat other things as promised.

I guess that it just goes to show, that if they are hungry, they WILL eat! :)

Good job, Mommy! It can be so hard to be persistent/consistent with a toddler but it really does work. We are going through similar issues like that in our house now so I can imagine that it was a tough battle:)

I too have just started to do this with my son. He just had his first birthday and along with it came his first cake (or first sweets ever). Now he is being so picky even with the things I know he likes. I have just started saying the same thing to him...."when you are done eating ?whatever then you can have something else". Like this morning I gave him some cherrio's and two strawberries cut up into small pieces. He ate all of the cereal but left the strawberries. I took the strawberries and put them into one of his snack cups and placed it in the frige for lunch time. So at lunch today I gave him a little bit of juice, small pieces of cheese, just a small handful of cherrio's, and some strawberries. He again ate all the cereal but left the cheese and the fruit. So I made a happy face on his high chair tray of the cheese and fruit. He ate all the cheese but not the strawberries again. I know he loves strawberries so I again just put the strawberries in a small snack cup in the frige and will try again at dinner. I[praying]that he will eat them at dinner. I'm also praying that he will eat some chicken tonight at dinner. He has been eating certain foods then spitting them out. Don't ask me why, cuz I don't know? Have any of your little one's done this.
I try to let you know how dinner goes. [chorecook]
