I'm sure you all know in Deuteronomy 11 how God told the Israelites to teach children about him at all times. I just wondered how you other moms talk about Him during the day. DS who is almost 4 has been wanting to read Max Lucado's Hermie the worm stories everyday. They are great and he's starting to ask questions about where God is and such. I just would like to talk to my kids more about Him other than stories or small prayers before meals. Suggestions? Thanks!

I am intentional about things like: "Thank you, Jesus for the rain/sun today" and "Let's ask God to help your cut on your knee heal" or "Mommy can't find the keys, we need to ask Jesus to help us"
Things like that. It is so worth it at times like when ds says, "Thank you Jesus!" in response to the beautiful sunshine!! [verycool]

I mostly take the lead in this area, as in, I seek chances to talk about Jesus. So, we talk about and to Jesus all the time. He's genuinely simply a part of our lives. I have always talked about Jesus with them all their lives so its just become natural. At first I just prayed with them, read bible stories. We've read thru some proverbs together. As far as my kids reading the word... For us reading time can be a stressful time, all vieing for my attention. So when I see something, a situation, a behaviour, a comment in them, or myself or dh I talk about it, bring it up, shed the light for them, so to speak, with biblical references Ive 'stored up' in my memory. It happens spontaneously and thru out the day/week. One night my dd Sophie couldnt sleep so she asked me to tell her some stories that Jesus told. It was just her so I got out the Children's bible (we had been given a good one!) and read from the Gospels. The Holy Spirit moved in her heart that night talking to her about why she was in the school she was in. She had been having problems with some kids who were making it difficult for her to concentrate on her school work. Praises to the Lord.
Another time my other dd, Julie, had gotten into the habit of making rude noises, just some unsightly and unlady like behaviour. I had been praying about how to 'confront' the issue. One day she was off on one, in a silly mood making her rude farting/burping noises and I said 'Julie, that is rather unlady like isnt it?'
'Yeah, but I dont care about what people think of me', was her response, an idea I know she picked up from the children's shows they watch sometimes. We went back and forth like that a few second. I stopped for a minute, took a few sips of my coffee, then continued...
'Are you a christian Julie?' She stopped dead in her tracks and said 'Yes'.
'Well, if you are a princess and a child of God... Shouldnt you care what others see in you?' She was quiet but the look on her face was pure conviction. She hasnt behaved like that since. The Holy Spirit leads in this. I ask for guidance for dh and I in this area and the Holy Spirit always shows us how and when to speak. I usually pray every night/morning for His guiding, for fellowship opportunities within our family and I often see them. Often spontaneous.
I have to say that this is a new stage for us. I havent always been so good at noticing the Holy Spirit move like this but Ive been surprised to look back with hindsight and see just how Christ has moved in our lives in this area. Even when I wasnt searching for these 'opportunities' they had just happened. I praise God for the way he's brought us thru. There is nothing good enough in dh and I to take any credit for how our home is filled with His presence, the conversation often turning to Christ, or else conviction as to what not to say, bc often old habits of the tongue do slip in.
Anyway. there's my novel on the subject, lol. I do like talking about this tho, good thread!
