its 12:30pm Sat here in Canada, what time would it be where she lives??
Her time is 16 hours ahead of yours.
1Cor13 09-09-2006, 06:19 PM SO.... It would be around 10am Sun then ..its after 6pm here. Wonder how she is...??
Did she say she would get Paul to post?
stephwhiz 09-09-2006, 11:14 PM I don't recall reading her saying she was going to have him post. I hope all is well. What is the average hospital stay there? Here it is 2 days. Maybe she will be home soon and can update us. Stephanie :D
Depends on the Mummy really as to how long they stay :D probably for a second baby she'd be 1-2 days.
I stayed 5 days with my second
Hopefully we'll get an update soon! :)
Meg - and they didnt try and kick you out? Awesome, guess you got to rest up well then.
1Cor13 09-10-2006, 07:06 AM Well I hope she posts soon. I am dying to hear the birth story.. hehehe ... :D
Hello everyone! I'm not sure if Amanda (ashtonsmama) has posted for me yet but I'm home now so here I am :D
Well, labour did not go as planned... I went in at 7pm on Friday to be induced. They hooked me up to the fetal monitor and came back 30 minutes later and said that baby was too "active" so they couldn't induce me yet. They also said my blood pressure was high. So I was really upset. Anyway, I was just lying there trying to stay calm and get baby to stop moving around so much  and at about 11.30pm my waters just broke. So Paul called the nurse in and she had a look and said that there was meconium in the waters. She wasn't a very good nurse... she didn't explain anything to us and when she said that there was meconium in the waters I freaked out because I was worried about baby inhaling it. And she was acting like everything was "fine and dandy" KWIM? She didn't tell me that the meconium was old and that it is normal for babies that are overdue to pass meconium. So I thought that baby was distressed. Eventually we got a good doctor and she told us that it was fine and that she wasn't worried about me. They said that my midwife would come to the hospital and put in an Oxytocin drip and get labour going. I was having contractions after my waters broke but they weren't painful.. just really intense. So my midwife came and put in the drip and it sped things up. She told me that Pethidine wouldn't probably "cut it" because the Oxytocin makes contractions far more painful. She said I'd most probably end up needing an epidural. Well, there was no way I was going to have that. So I ended up just using the gas and she put one dose of Pethidine into the IV in my arm. I'm not sure that it worked because she only put it in about 20 minutes before Sophie arrived. And it sure didn't feel like it worked LOL  The gas helped me get through each contraction though. Even though after I stopped breathing it in I was sooooo dizzy and my head was spinning.
Sophie arrived at 6:06am (Saturday 9th). She weighed 9lbs 2ozs. She has a lot of dark brown hair and dark eyes. She is 52 centimetres tall... I'll have to get back to you on how many inches it is. Her head circumference is way smaller than Abbys was. She is very tiny compared to Abby even though she is taller and weighs more. I feel so nervous handling her... and I never felt nervous handling Abby.
We came home yesterday at about midday. I hate hospitals... but they were very good. I transferred to our local hospital on Saturday night. I wanted to stay longer but I missed Paul and Abby so much and couldn't stop worrying about how Abby would be dealing with me not being around. She played up majorly for my parents on Friday night. She sat in the hallway for about an hour screaming and sobbing. She went to the front door and said she wanted to go home and see mummy :( And she wouldn't eat much for them and even when she went home she wouldn't eat much for Paul.
Now that I'm home I feel much better.
I'm having bad afterpains. But otherwise I'm fine. Sophie is doing ok. She swallowed meconium and has been very gassy but she is feeding ok and seems fine.
Here is a photo of her...

My guess was way off on the day/time, but I got the hair and eyes right as well as the length (close). 52 centimeters is about 20 1/2 inches.
