View Full Version : I'm scared

I can honestly say that I haven't been scared since Angela's chest collapsed just after birth. I've been around babies and kids my whole life and was prepared for everything, except the BIKE.

Angela received her bike for her 6th birthday and on her 7th we took the training wheels off ( we had insurance then )...She fell ALOT and asked me to put them back on.

Now she's ready to try again and we don't have insurance and I'm scared.

I've been watching her. ( a bit of history, Angela was never expected to walk, it took her years to gain muscle control ) but she's now strong enough to peddle through dry grass...

Should I let her try in the grass...Concrete seems so harsh a ground to learn on...She has a helmet always but no other protection..She can't move in knee pads...

I'm scared but I don't want to hold her back if she's ready but I'm not ready [crwy]

You gotta take a leap of faith, Mama! I know it's hard and she's your baby... But if it makes her happy, ya know?

And there is nothing wrong with letting her try it out on the grass first.

We are about to pull out Gracie's little bike. My mom and brother got it for her SECOND birthday  like she could ride it then. But now she is almost three and a half. LOL We'll she. It has training wheels and it is made smaller than the regular size... But it is so hard to think that my baby is big enough to ride a bike. [crwy]

Girlfriend, you sound just like me. However, I do not get to be scared because my dh thinks it's pure crazy! So, when my little Alex wanted a bicycle ramp, I almost died inside, [whathelp] but dh assured me things would be fine. Then came the skateboard, the trampoline, the Razor scooter, the stunt bike, the go cart....now, he wants a 4 wheeler and a dirt bike. [whateww] I get scared every time he mentions a new thing. And he loves loves loves to forget his kneepads, elbow pads and helmet. That's when I really go into mamma mode and act like a crazy woman yelling out the door! [whateeeeeksign] "Put your helmet on or get off!!!" [whatnaughty] He had stitches when he was 3 and had his head glued (gash in the head, we got to choose between glue and stitches) just a few years ago and I was pretty scared about a year ago that he had broken his ribs from a bike fall....he had a bad bruise and scrape from his waist to his underarm. That scared me to death because he was screaming so we rushed to the ER, but he was fine. [whatwacko] Nothing broken......so far.

Anyway, I can so understand your fears and pray the Lord eases your mind. She'll probably be fine. Like mamatotwo said, take that leap of faith!

Let us know how she does.

Go for it!! We took Autumn and Trent's off when they were 4 years old and they took right off without a hitch. She'll be fine. Stephanie :D

From the photos I viewed today, looks like she's making great progress!
