View Full Version : Flatfolds! Yuck!
BlessedMommy 09-06-2006, 01:45 PM Well, I'm officially part of the pocket diapers crowd for sure! I decided to try an old fashioned flatfold dipe on my daughter for the "fun" of it and let's just say those dipes are going to be burp cloths! It took ten times as long to put the dipe on her, the pin wouldn't slide through the fabric easily, and the legs still had openings around the thighs after using 3 pins AND a Snappi! I gave up and took it off of her eventually. By that point, she was screaming. LOL.
It'd be nice to know how to use an old-fashioned dipe in case I have to, but right now I'm not sure that I'll ever get good at it. BTW, I used the kite fold.

those and my fitteds .. I mostly have Mother-Ease one size (though kid doesn't fit them til about 3 months or so) and their Sandies (oooo niiiice) all with Mother-Ease covers
I never bothered with flats and folding..ugh...just the thought I applaud you for giving it a try hehe
Hey you probably did the best you can ;) They are not great IMO
I consider myself an expert at folding and putting on prefolds and you can only do so well. So it's not you. There is just no way to get the diaper tight around the legs and the pins don't slide through the diaper easily especially with the fold I used because it had to slide through about four layers of diaper  I think they say to stick the pins into Vaseline or something to make them slide through easier but even the pins just don't keep the diaper on tight IMO
BlessedMommy 09-06-2006, 06:12 PM Yeah, if you're going to use prefolds, using the method of just folding them into a good cover without pins seems to be the best way. I have some Diaperaps covers and from my understand you can do that with them.
Tara, I've seen Motherease online. How do you like yours? I have two Wonderoo one size dipes, but I haven't even tried them on her yet, because I had heard that they don't fit newborns well.
~Tara~ 09-07-2006, 08:21 AM I really like our ME. They're nicely priced (much cheaper than many WAHM brands) nice quality We just really like them. I got started with the one-size ones when I first started. I've had some of these dipe since then even...that was over 5 years ago. I just recently got some Sandies for this one. I really like them too. More cushy and absorbant than one size. And they're the side snap rather than front. I've found in WAHM brands I prefer side snaps. The ME one size are the only front snaps I like.
Yes, there may be some WAHM brand out there of better quality (dreamy organic hemp sherpa or something) but those come with a price tag to match. NOT so economical then, doesn't work for me. I think ME has great quality with a more friendly price tag ;)
DH loves 'em too.
No, they're not as cute as WAHM fitteds, but oh well, they're for poopin' on and who sees em anyway LOL

ITA you should see the prices for Snazzipants (they have hemp filling). They are about $26 each
The system I was going to get is now $712. I think it's gone up in price... But they are one size fits all.
Glad you confirmed that one for me Ruth because a lot of mothers had told me the same thing about those nappies being only great for burpers and also to put down where babies head lays in the crib in case of posseting -
I honestly don't know how mothers back in the day handled this - talk about spillage out the legs LOL! can you imagine how much bedding we all went through as bubs? eewww! Mum used to run a daycare at home and I remember babies coming along with these CD and she'd change their diaper and the poop would have run out into the plastic pants, so she'd have to remove them ultra slow so as not to flick the poop everywhere and then rinse them in the sink - okay when it's your kid, sickening when it's not LOL LOL. this was at the time where no one had disposables.
I am so greatful for the invention of the modern kind of CD! I did have a few ???? from rellies about my choice until they actually saw the product.
Mum raved about them actually  (and she knows ALL about nappies - she had us plus did home daycare for 17 yrs LOL).
Not sure if I mentioned this before but MIL was over on the weekend and she actually criticised my new modern "pocket" nappies and tried to tell me she was going to buy me the folder requiring pin/snappis - I said NO firmly, so hopefully that was message enough for her since she tends not to listen. LOL
Just trying to win some eenee weenee nappy covers off ebay at the moment :D :D :D
Glad to hear about your experience, since we are going to be there in da da da dummmmm 2 WEEKS! (that's if my little karate kid doesn't get stroppy with her living quarters and decide to come earlier)
Yeah, we love out pocket diapers!
we have Wonderoos and Fuzzi Bunz. :D I have also heard good things about Happy Heineys.
BlessedMommy 09-09-2006, 06:00 PM I have wonderoos and fuzzis also, Rach. I was pleasantly surprised on how well the wonderoos fit her. I had heard complaints from others that they didn't fit newborns well. But I wanted to try a couple of one size diapers so I got them. They work fine and will probably fit even better when she's bigger.
