View Full Version : crusty...
PianoMama 05-05-2008, 05:10 PM My sweet litte girl has a crusty eye. It's kinda similar to what happens when you have pink eye, but I'm fairly sure it's not conjunctivitus...any suggestions? Right now I'm wiping out the ***** stuff fairly often while she's awake. When she wakes up from a nap I have to use a warm wet washcloth to dislodge the crust. ICK!!!
PianoMama 05-05-2008, 05:14 PM i got bleeped! HA!!
i don't even remember what word i used....i promise it wasn't bad!!!
irishmum2boys 05-05-2008, 05:55 PM My oldest ds had that when he was newborn and I would just do the same as you are doing for your dd, it seems like I remember someone saying you can also put your breastmilk on there! I guess it helps, but I think it should heal soon!
~Tara~ 05-05-2008, 06:31 PM yeah I'd go ahead and put some breastmilk in there
pink eye or not, it'll help clear things up :)
breastmilk...it's a wonderful thing :giggle:
someone needs to write a book...1001 Uses for Breastmilk :p
Ok, well, maybe that's a stretch...should we start at 101? :snort:
Jessy 05-05-2008, 06:33 PM Payton had the same thing, we just wiped it like you are doing and it cleared up on its own by the time he was 2 months!
Ashlee 05-05-2008, 07:03 PM I second.. or third the breastmilk suggestion! Any time one of mine had the slightest show of any eye issues I'd squirt a bit of my breastmilk in each eye and whatever the issue was it would be resolved almost immediately.. like the same day type thing. None of mine ever got full blown pink eye or anything but I think I prevented it atleast once with the squirt of breastmilk.
~Tara~ 05-05-2008, 08:52 PM Oo oo I have the name for the book....
Breastmilk: Nature's Ultimate Antibiotic :grins:
Ranks right up there with... Baby Spit: Nature's Ultimate Lubricant...don't you think? teehee
PianoMama 05-06-2008, 01:07 AM T, you're hilarious!! Thanks everyone for the breastmilk suggestions...will try!
danou 05-06-2008, 10:49 AM i forth the bm suggestion...
could it be blocked tear duct... bm and gentle massage to loosen things up was what my friend was told to do with her daughter.
d:)
believeNgrace 05-06-2008, 01:26 PM Isn't God amazing?! Grace woke up with an eye irritation this morning and I had an apt scheduled with her Ped for this afternoon but I'm cancelling and will try some breastmilk!
THANKS LADIES!
Israel 05-14-2008, 11:02 PM DS has had a clogged tear duct since he was born. I tried the breast milk thing before, but it seemed like it made it worse...his eye ended up red and puffy through the next day. I'm wondering if I should try it again...is this something I should do daily until it heals?? The watery eye doesn't seem to bother him, but it does end up crusty in the morning and its hard to get that stuff out of his beautiful little eyelashes. So, basically, it bothers ME. The doc said it wouldn't hurt to see the specialist or he may just grow out of it. The specialist would probably prescribe something--but I hate to give him medication...plus his poor little eye has had me wiping on it for so long...I hope I haven't already damaged it some how...:(
shaynes08 05-14-2008, 11:10 PM Sounds like a clogged tear duct. Both my sons had it. Use a warm washcloth and massage the eye from the outside to the inside (towards the nose). I would do this at least 3-4 times a day, probably more b/c the stuff looked so gross! Then I would use the suggestion and apply breastmilk. Hope it clears up soon!
4Angelz 05-14-2008, 11:20 PM It is definitely a clogged tear duct. All of my sons had it. Warm washcloth with massage helps as described above. If breastmilk doesn't work (b/c unfortuneatly some are extremely resistant), the doc can prescribe some eye gel that does wonders. My youngest has the most resistant tear duct yet and the infection keeps coming back every couple of weeks. He's had that clogged tear duct get infected 3 times since he was born and my other boys only had 1 infection. Sheesh!
sis_n_bubsmommy 05-15-2008, 10:53 AM Dd is experiencing the very same thing! She woke up Monday morning with *gunk* in her left eye. I used breastmilk all day Tuesday and thought I had it cleared up; but it came back again today :( My other 2 never had this-so I am unsure of how to treat it. How long does it usually take to clear up? She doesn't act like she's in pain or feels bad because of it. Confusing.......
PianoMama 05-15-2008, 02:17 PM I took Shaelyn to the dr. yesterday for her reflux and mentioned the eye crust (sounds lovely!!). She said it was indeed a clogged duct. Just wash with a warm washcloth and to massage from the inside of her eye down the length of her nose to help relieve the clog. No biggie! Some days are better than others...
