Well, I know that there's a correct way to fold CPF's. But I sure must not have done it right. Because when Hannah was in daddy's arms, all of a sudden some poop appeared on his shirt. LOL. We opened the diaper and there was a huge lake in there and some of it seeped out of the sides! So Tim gave her a bath and changed her clothes. So how do you fold CPF's to avoid this problem?

I think it depends on the kid as to how to fold them. Each kid will pass a different kind of bowel. Keep trying the oragami and see what works best!

This reminds me of a story. My mom used the prefolds with us years ago. My sister was a baby and we drove up from NC to PA to visit our grandparents. We were sitting down to dinner, my sis was on mom's lap and she let out a good one that overflowed into mom's lap. She had to sit there at the dining room table and mop herself up before she could move without dripping on grandma's white carpet. Dad and I sat there and continued eating like this was an everyday occurance (I was just over two at the time). Grandma and grandad got really grossed out by the nasty napkins that ended up on the table.

Sorry, I just had to share. I think something like that can happen with anyone.

I have no idea what the fold is called that I used... but it was the best one for us. There was another one but I can't remember the name of that one either.

Do you put plastic pants on over the diaper? That used to keep in the poos for me. I would put plastic pants over the diaper and then I put fluffy bunnies over those.

No, I didn't use plastic pants over it. I just put the CPF on her, secured it with a Snappi fastener, and put on a Dappi cover over it.

I knew that there was a reason why I was more excited about using Fuzzi Bunz. LOL. I think that once she changes sizes, no more CPF's for us. Besides, I already have 15 FB's in size medium.

Oh yeah I know what you mean. I hated prefolds. It didn't matter which fold I used it was just never tight around the legs so all the poos would just fall out.
We were going to use the fitted ones this time but we can't afford them. They are $672. The ones I was going to get are one size fits all... not sure how good those are. There was no way we could afford to keep buying bigger sizes.

That must have been such a dissappointment for you Ruth, but I am so glad you posted that because I had been tempted by the Chinese pre-fold at one stage until a few Mum's told me NEVER to buy that type of nappy and to stick to the "fancy" kind. (like the Fluffies and Little Angles I have)

Good ol MIL saw my nice fancy CD's and tried to criticise them and tell me that she would buy me the "old fashioned" terrytowel system (she was basically trying to tell me all about the new product etc and "the only thing with those is" I wanted to slap her and say and you haven't changed a diaper in what, 25 years?) and I just said "no thanks" instead of "stop trying to control everything and put your oar in" LOL LOL.

Handled it quite well! The rolling pin stayed in the draw and the deep slow breathing worked to calm me down ROTF ROTF

Um, yeah, Aussie_Mum, in my humble opinion, the more expensive diapers are well worth it. Plus, once we have a full collection of FB's we can pass them on down to our other future kids. I have 8 FB's in newborn size and 2 one size fits all pocket diapers. Then I have 15 Fuzzi's in medium size and am hoping to get some large as gifts.

My MIL said that she was surprised that we could afford an expensive diaper like this, but I simply said that we weren't putting out a bunch of money on other things since we got so many gifts and we view them as a long term investment. Many people don't realize how quickly $50 a month for disposables adds up, so they look at cloth diapers as "extravagant" I guess.

I just know how much inconvenience I'm willing to put up with in the name of saving money and folding CPF's for 3 years isn't part of it! LOL. The nice thing is that when she outgrows the newborn CPF's I can use them as stuffers/inserts for Fuzzi Bunz, so at least I didn't waste my money on them.

09-04-2006, 05:54 PM
Yeah it would be good if they had some way that you could pay them off bit by bit. We just don't have that kind of money to pay for them in one go KWIM? Disposables are more expensive in the long run but you aren't paying for all of them at once. We spend about $14-21 a week on disposables (NZ dollars). Soon it will be more...
I tried the CPFs but I just couldn't stand them.

Actually, Renee, if you purchased them off of Ebay, you could set up a payment plan through Paypal buyer credit.

The prefolds will make great burp rags too. And then, after my sis was pottied trained, my mom used them for dust clothes. They lasted until I was in high school for that actually....

I don't have Paypal  I'd need a credit card for that wouldn't I?

Hey Renee! Sticking my nose in here--you can use a credit card or checking acct. on Paypal. Have a great one! Stephanie :D

Yep I am using the CPFs as burp cloths.

I'd have to go back to using CPFs if I was going to get the fitted ones because I'd need the money we are spending on disposables to pay for the fitteds. So I'd have to use CPFs while paying off the fitteds.
I don't think I can do that  I hate CPFs.

If I'd known about fitted cloth when I was pregnant with Abby I would have definitely got them.

I think that you can buy the item with the buyer credit and use it while paying it off. So you could buy the dipes and pay them off while using them. I totally understand why you wouldn't want to use CPF's!

Renee - you can use your regular bank account for Pay Pal, pay pal and ebay are how I have brought my fitted CD's at a cheaper price.

I can't remember if you have BIG W/WALLMART in NZ or not??? but if you want to get hold of a good and popular type of fitted nappy - there is a brand called FLUFFIES which is extremely popular over here - they are 4.30 p/d which I think is CHEAP compared to some of the others that are like, 15.00 p/d.

A lot of people invest in the CD systems and then don't use them and so it's easy to get cheap stuff from there.

You also don't have to use pay pal to buy them, as you can use money order etc to pay. I totally know what you are saying that it's so hard to set yourself up with them when you can buy the disposables then and there!!! But I only just saw in Coles that a box of huggies is 42.00 (that's almost 200.00 p/m on nappies), and there are a few good cheaper alternatives - but not that many anymore unless you visit a chemist (over here anyways)

I also just brought a load of nappy covers (6) that a Japanese woman had sent to her by relitives in Japan that she never used because her baby was TINY, so they were too big and then she decided CD wasn't for her - that I have gotten for 20.00 - being that nappy covers are 4.30 each that was quite a great saving. Being that CD is very popular in Japan I think I am getting a good product.

There are people selling CD all over ebay - so that is where I will be bidding when Matilda goes up a size, if I decide to stick to them (wanted to trial it rather than buying a whole system and then hating it or something like that).

I agree with Blessedmommy, you can pass them downline too and also re-sell them on ebay if one decides not to have any more children.

Oh ok :) Yeah I really hate CPFs. I don't know how you clean them but the way my mum told me to do it is to soak them in Napisan and then wash them in the machine (well actually she said you don't need to use laundry powder and you just rinse them out in the machine...). But the whole rinsing the poos off in the toilet (I know you have to do that with fitteds as well) and not really having any "dry corner" to hold onto and having to squeeze them out ... well, lets just say I hate it.
I've been told with the fitteds you just dry pail. So all you have to do is get rid of the poopys and then wash them in the machine. That saves the whole back breaking part of standing over the laundry tub or whatever you soak CPFs in and squeezing them out before chucking them into the washing machine. And lets face it... who really wants to touch dirty diapers LOL The less handling the better

Ah ok. I've never used Ebay before. I've always used Trade Me which is a NZ site but I don't think they have Paypal on there.

No we don't :( We have K Mart. I'm not sure if they sell Fluffies or not... Are they absorbent? And are they one size fits all or different sizes? The system I was going to get are called EcoNaps I think... and they are one size. So you don't have to buy larger sizes all the time.

We get our nappies from Nappies For Less. They are $6.99 a pack of 12. Abby is in the largest size nappy now. I think the newborn packs are 28 but not sure... So we spend about $14 sometimes $21 a week on those. Which is around $56-$84 a month.

That Nappies for Less sounds brilliant! Is it like a seconds place, or just cheaper nappies?

There is a seconds place up near Mum's but we found out that half the tabs were defective and it just wasn't worth spending the money on them.

The cheaper brand I ended up using on the twins is called COSIFITS and they work fantastically - so I will be using them at night for Matilda.

The fluffies appear to go up in size, but the way everyone raves about them and the fact they are so popular (as soon as they on sale on ebay mum's go NUTS fighting for them), makes me think they must be absorbant. They are soooo soft and appear to have a lot of padding, which I think is a great sign.

No they aren't seconds. We buy Babylove... it's an Aussie brand so I'm sure you know it ;) They have Australian animal pictures on the band around the waist.

I'll have to have a look around for these Fluffies... even if I just got 1 dozen I can use them at home and overnight and just use disposables when we go out. Thanks :D

Renee - I really like the babylove but they aren't as cheap as they used to be over here.

I am sure though with only one baby this time when I do have to use the disposables (like you for going out) and at nighttime, I'll be only buying these brands and it will work out way more economical than with a set of twins. I can't stand Snugglers - as soon as baby pees they STINK
and Huggies are way to overpriced and I wouldn't pay for them on principal just because the commercials say "They are the BEST" (doesn't make it so).

OOh, I love the cpf's. when bri was a little baby, newborn, i folded them in thirds and put them in a pro-rap. we had no problems. when i was pregnant, I bought six newborn pro-raps, six mediums, and have had some larger ones given to me. I still use them. here lately, though, I've used disposables as it's been hard for me to do anything, much less wash diapers. when patrick gets here, I plan to go back to cloth for both of them. I also use kushies ultra all in ones with them. I have a few newborn bumkins, but hate them, dh likes them though, and have a few pockets, but again , I hate them, dh likes them, LOL.
I plan to either buy more bigger pro-raps or buy some PUL and makes some bigger covers, havent' decided yet.

Um quite frankly I don't like Huggies and Treasures. I think Babylove are more absorbent. Why would you pay $14-15 for a pack of Huggies when you can get more absorbent nappies for half the price? :? The only time I ever got Huggies and Treasures was when Abby was a newborn before I discovered Babylove :D Huggies are expensive because they are the "Plunket endorsed" nappies  Well I don't care if they are the Plunket endorsed ones... Babylove are better! :P

How much are Babylove nappies in Aussie now? They are $6.99 here. I've searched for cheaper nappies but all the ones that are $5 something aren't very absorbent. There is one brand I haven't tried yet... I might get some of them after Sophie arrives to try them out. I can use them at home anyway and just change them more often if they aren't as absorbent. So I won't be wasting them.

It took me a loooong time to like prefolds! I started out with them but couldn't get the hang of pinning them, and discovered real quick-like that tri-folding does not go well with poops! I them tried virtually every fitted diaper known to baby...and then found my self longin gfor the simplicity and custom-fit of prefolds, so I switched back and have been happy ever since.
