All the TIME! ok I know baby's sleep a lot, but he is 8 months old, should he really sleep this much? I wonder if he is going through a growth spurt or something. This is his NORMAL sleep pattern for the past few weeks. (I know I shouldn't complain...this pattern really is NICE:-D)
Go to sleep around 8:30ish
up around 9-10 (I know I know...he has always been a good sleeper in-er)
Nap around 11 for 1-2 1/2 hours
nap around 2 for 1-3 hours
nap around 5 for 1 hour
then back to bed around 8:30is

I know it is normal for lo to have 2-3 naps a day but for up to 3 hours at a time!?!? He sleeps well at night, usually up maybe 1 time to eat.

Anyways I am just wondering if I should start waking him up after a certian time when he is napping.
Thanks for any advice.

Quite normal and those patterns will change every few months! Relish these moments! LOL...they say up to 21 hours of sleep a day is still normal for little ones under 2 growing and reccomend at least 14 to 18 hours of sleep each day up to age 6 or sometimes older!! No worries!

all 3 of mine slept like that at that age. Patrick is 19 months and he still sleeps like that when he's teething, going through a growth spurt, or we've been super busy for a few days straight.

Ditto to what the other girls said.....

As long as everyone in your house is healthy and happy the way things are, nothing needs to change.

Becky, I don't want to be the only negative one, but it actually sounds like a lot for an 8 month old. Is he on track for all his other developmental milestones? Is is weight normal? If it is, then I wouldn't worry a bit. If his is having any trouble sitting up, crawling, pulling to stand, then he may need more awake time to work on developmental skills. He may just be growing and working so hard when he is awake that he needs his sleep. Again, I wouldn't worry, but I would take some time to look at the big pictures to make sure everything is okay.
Forgive me if I seem negative, but I am a social worker for our states early intervention program. I keep a case load of 15 to 25 infants and toddlers with developmental delays so I always have my eyes open for possible developmental issues.

All I have to say is that you are so lucky!!!!! Okay trying not to be too jealous here... but at that age I was lucky if Timmy only woke up 3 times at night and got a total of 9 hours sleep in a 24 hour period!!!!! *deep breath* Okay, yes that's normal, or so I hear. Timmy never ever ever ever slept that much, hence I was a walking zombie for 2 years.

He is right on developmentaly, and even a little earlier then some of his peers. He is low on the growth chart, but the dr is monitoring it and says that he is growing at a normal pace and most likely gets his height from me (4'11) I am pretty sure it is a growth spurt/teething. I think he might have grown a 1/2 to an inch in a coupe weeks, he is already outgrowing his 9 months cloths and is wearing his first 12 month jammies tonight! thanks for all of you inputs
