Got your attention with that title didn't I!!!

My one year old eats everything (hence the vulture title!). This morning, he had a full bowl of cereal, a full container of yogurt (those little ones, but still), and most of his milk. He still wants more, so he ate a bit of my toast. My four year old is still struggling with 2 slices of toast. In fact he struggles to eat one sometimes. How is it that my four year old weighs twice what my one year old weighs but eats about a quarter of what my one year old eats? I don't get it!

My four year old has been at the table for nearly a 1/2 hour and has only had a few bites. My one year old finished his food, begged off my plate, and is now playing.

When I was in university, I took a course on animal behaviour. It was a disappointing course, but I learnt that the smaller the animal, the more energy he or she expended. They have more surface area than a larger animal and so shed heat more quickly, etc. So is this the reason that my one year old can eat my four year old under the table? But that should be proporonate to size right? You don't see a hummingbird eat more than an elephant! LOL.

I actually think that my four year old just hates sitting still to eat while my one year old enjoys the new experience. Still, where does my one year old put it all and how does my four year old survive!

Silly children!

My 16 mo is going through the same thing. For the longest time we could not pay him to eat. Now, watch out cause he's a eating machine!

Last night was a quickie night for us. Dh had to work so it was just me and the boys. I fixed Aaron noodles and I warmed up Ian some chicken noodle soup. He ate over 1/2 the can. Then I had a microwave burrito (nutritious, I know) with salsa and sour cream. He begged off my plate until I gave him a bite. I figured one bite and that would be it. Oh no...he actually liked it! So I had to share of course. Then it was yogurt and then a whole sippy cup of milk b/f bed!! Where is he putting it all???

Introverts may tend to eat slower too, if it's partly a personality marker.

My four year old is anything but an introvert. If I get one of those, I'm in trouble! LOL

My DS is like your one year old. His breakfasts were almost twice as big as mine and the he hit 18 months and some days I lucky if he eats 2 bites of a banana. I think he is now like your 4 year old, there are too many interesting things to do besides eat. Like you said he hates to sit still to eat. Toddlers are interesting little ones arn't they

Could it be his growth? There are times when I cannot get my daughter to eat a thing. Or there are days like yesterday, when she had 2 bowls of cereal for breakfast, two plates of pasta and chicken for lunch, and 2 servings of beans and weiners for dinner. And she snacked on apple slices throughout the day, too. By the end of the day, I felt like asking who she was, and what had happened to Audrey, lol!

With Audrey, I'm attributing her increased eating to the probability that she's about to hit a growth spurt. They tend to stock up on calories right before they start growing.

hah yes my almost 4 y/o DS does this. He will put away 4 wheat bix in the morning, and then a while later begin asking for more food.
He will polish off sometimes 3 apples.

last night he scoffed his home made fried rice down in about 5 minutes and then said to me "what else have you got for me to eat?"

I get so mad if my kids hang around my plate, I snap like a croc and demand they go sit down or go away until I have finished.

My 9 month old blows my mind. He acts like he's always hungry. He is already eating more then my 3 year old. I was thinking maybe its a boy thing?? Brooke never ate like this, well, she was mostly breastfed until she was a year old so that could be part of it. Lawson doesn't get much out of me these days. :( I kind of dried up because of being pregnant. Poor guy, I feel like he's getting ripped off. Anyways.. he eats healthy still, I don't feed him junk, but I can't beleive he eats so much! And he poops like 5 times a day! I guess he's a growing boy.. right?

He poops 5 times a day LOL LOL! DS only goes once but he's in there for half an hour sometimes ROTF!

He's just taken another apple from the cupboard, his third today.
