Hi-dh and I have been trying to supplement with Isomil-but she doesn't seem to take to it very well. A friend gave me some samples of Enfamil to try-she doesn't seem to like that either. She just seems to want mommy milk-but I was wondering what formula is closest to breastmilk?

Thank you

They are all almost identical, just trace differences in amounts of some minor things...the difference in the more expensive ones is the refining process....some kids just really have a hard time doing both breast and formula.....
Enfamil is great, it's what we used both times....Similac is also good....I've had friends use Nestle GoodStart too and like it...really, it is what formula fits the need of the child that is best...

how does she "not like it"? is it a puke thing? or just preference? if it's a puke thing, either BF more, or try a more pre-digested formula such as allimentum or nutramigen (similac and enfamil, respectively). If it's a taste thing, I challenge you to taste your milk, then the formula stuff, then decide for yourself why she prefers your milk. That's the only suggestion I have, though.

I use Enfamil with lipil, the lipil is supposed to help in digestion if that is what she is having trouble with.

Payton had trouble adjusting to the formula from breast milk also. He would take a couple sucks then spit the nipple out making a face like "whats that stuff" haha. He was having trouble with having BMs and such so I started him on Enfamil lipil from the start and he hasn't had any problems.

Like the previous poster says, it's all the same nutritionally it's the refining process thats used for each different kind thats different. What it comes down to is what YOUR baby can handle.

I hope you find one that works!

She'll take a few sucks, then makes that 'what on earth is this' face, then she may take a few more and then she'll gag-but she never pukes. Now last night she took a 2 oz bottle of Enfamil lipil, but it came with an orthodonic nipple, where when we tried the Isomil-we used a playtex nurser and it had the straight nipple. So, I kinda wonder if the type of nipple has something to do with it too, or really if she just prefers BF......

have you considered mixing the formula with breast milk during the switching phase? I haven't any experience with it, but I've been told it helps. Sometimes the water can be an issue especially if you use tap water or use different sources. IE: home, gramma's, at the mall etc.
If I may gently ask, why are you supplementing? Do you have supply problems? Need a break? Is pumping an option?

I was afraid she wasn't thriving and also trying to supplement for times when we are away and also so dh could participate too. He was feeling a bit left out that I was the only one who got to feed her. But as it goes right now, I'm foregoing the formula and am pumping. I was so worried; but the dr said today that she is going great and that she is getting enough with breastmilk. I also returned to work Tuesday so I'm pumping there too so she can still have it while I'm away.

Thanks :)

Good stuff!
Don't forget that daddy can do other things with babe to bond. My dh would pull babe off- well not quite- and do all the burping, changing, bathing etc.
