Does anyone have any suggestions for how to deal with colic? My daughter has had gas bubbles passing through her system like crazy this afternoon and has been exhibiting all the signs of being in pain and distress. We tried putting her in a warm bath and massaging her tummy, gave her some drops for gas, and finally she fell asleep exhausted.
HELP!
I understand what you are going through and what you did was 100% right.
Paris used to suffer from colic a lot and one of my main cures other than what you said was to lay her belly down on my lap, cup her head in my hand and rub her back. She would always be eased and fall asleep.
We also used infacol & gripe water.
Can't say the gripe water did anything but we think the infacol made a difference (two drops before her feeds).
they are bound to get upsets from time to time.

Heat can make gas pass more quickly, so if you put one of her blankets in the dryer for a few minutes to warm it up and then wrap her in it, it should help. That is if it isn't too hot where you live right now. I don't know about up there, but down here in SW Mo, it is miserable!!!!!
Also, swaddling her and then bouncing may help. Especially if you sit on an exercise ball to do it (easier on you) and then hold her tummy on your chest with her head on your shoulder (like burping) and rub her back. The movement can be soothing and the warmth from you along with the pressure of the back rub can move things along better.

Awww poor baby, colic isn't fun for baby or mom! Sounds like lots of good ideas already. I also found that putting them in the snuggly or sling and just going for a walk or just wandering around the house or yard, works really well too, sometimes that fresh air is just what they need.

I have tried gripe water by little remedies and it has helped.
Like AussieMum said, I used to put ds tummy down over one leg, supporting his chest and head with my arm. I'd then rock him gently (swing my leg back and forth) and rub his back at the same time. Used to work for us! :)

Awww, poor Hannah. Hope she's feeling better.
When Sam had really bad gas, we would lay her on her back, bend her knees and push towards her tummy. It seemed to work pretty well for her.
agree agree agree
Aiden had bad colic. We went for lots of walks, gripe water, gas drops, lay on tummy, lots of swaddling, lots of walking and bouncing.
I will pray for you. Colic is not easy to deal with especially when you are trying to recover from birth. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Even if a neighbor or friend watches baby while you take a nice hot shower or a quick nap, you need to take care of yourself.

My husband and I started reading a book called the Happiest Baby on the Block. It advocates recreating the womb environment for the 1st three months after birth. Tim tried some of the things on Hannah and it was literally like taking a light switch and switching off her crying.
I'll have to update when we've tried more of the suggestions!

After Micah was born I had a public health nurse who came out and she showed me some techniques that sound like it may be the same thing. You swaddle the baby and then lay them on their side and gently bounce them on your arm and sssshh into their ear. Is that the same thing, I found it worked well too, the only thing was Micah weighed over 9lbs so he got a bit heavy on my arm!

Glad you found that book. I watched the DVD when I was preg. the first time. I tried a lot of the stuff on the kids at the day care I worked at, and it works, for the most part. It does partly depend on the kid.
If you get a chance to see the DVD (same name as the book), do so. It shows the swaddling technique and everything if you are a visual, watch someone else do it first kind of learner)
