My dd has been having some sort of vagina infection. It seem more like the outside (like the vulva). It's red and it sorta smells.:???: I took her to the doctors and they said it was yeast so i applied some cream and it didn't work. I took her again to the doctors this past monday (another dr because we just moved). But when i took her in my dd looked fine because i was applying some oxygen spray that i use for rashes. So it cleared up the redness. So according to the symptoms that i told the doctor ( smell, redness, and yellow discharge on her underwear) she gave me nystain (sp?)(in case the redness came back). Which i believe it's also for yeast? Well the redness and smell came back and it's going to be 4 days of applying nystain and it seems to be taking away the redness but i think there still may be a smell. I have a feeling it may not be a yeast infection. So i'm going to take her to the doctors again on monday. If it's not a yeast infection what could it be? Any advice from you ladies? TIA

No idea. But they made a home test for yeast infections. Not sure how much it costs. I've had one that was hard to get rid of before.

Hey hun, sorry to hear she still has that. Nystatin was the one I was telling you about. Took away DDs redness she would get on antibiotics.

Since she is so young, the only thing that I can think of that could be making it worse are baths. If you let her sit in soap for too long it can cause irritation. When you get into adult/womens health then you really have more possible culprits, but I would just try showers and Nystatin and see if it clears up.

I agree with Gracie, stay away from bubble baths and that sort of thing. Feed her lots of yogurt as well.
Hope whatever it is that it clears up soon!

I'm sorry your DD is having some issues. One thing that may be reassuring is that my Ped told me that prepubesent girls don't get infections IN the vagina. Their pH is different when they are little and goobers don't travel very far up there. PTL for that!!!

Have you thought that she could have a staph infection? I know that wetness and warmth can make staph happy. I haven't had to deal with a staph infection before, but I know that antibiotic cream can help. You might also want to consider baby probiotics. This will help right your babies flora in her gut and that helps the body ward off goobers like yeast and staph better. Most health food stores have a powder form made for little ones and it's just so good for them!

I hope you can find some relief for your DD.

Blessings,
Amber

Thank you all for your replies. :-D I stopped giving hannah bubble baths after i noticed the redness which is now about 3 weeks ago so i don't think that's not the problem now. Also she eats yogurt everyday and i started giving her a probiotic about 2 months ago. Although i have not tried applying yogurt in that area so i may try that out. Thanks again ladies. Prayers would be appreicated!

Also i've never heard of staph before, is that some sort of vaginal infection, Amber?

....Staph is short for Staphylococcus aureus. It is a bacteria commonly found on our skin. But if it enters certain places like wounds it can cause infection.

fyi...Staph also commonly grows in bath tubs, showers, everywhere really.

There is also MRSA which is staph that does not respond to commonly used antibiotics... My pediatrician said MRSA is also very commonly found all around us as well. I have battled it a few times myself, luckily it did respond to one antibiotic.
