We are in desperate need of some Easter traditions. Pretty much what we have right now is plastic eggs in a basket with a few gifts and eating.
:???:
Help, let me pluck your brains and hearts for ideas!
PS, I'm sorry if this is somewhere else, I am not able to read every post here, so if it's somewhere else please link me :) I posted here because for me, it's about the children, and how I'd like to make Easter a more spiritual, special holiday for our whole family.

Ditto! Exactly what I was going to suggest. We also have our girls go E.G.G. hunting all year long for (evidences of God's grace). It's amazing what you find when you're looking, ya know? Makes for great dinner table conversation at our house.
We're also participating in a Seder supper this year (celebration of Passover). The church that I was raised in had this every year as well as a foot washing during Holy Week. I haven't participated in yearts, but am excited to do so this year. Although it's a Jewish feast it personally feels right to us to celebrate it with a few close friends as Jesus did just before He died.

We celebrate the Passover as well, although this year we won't be doing it as part of Easter (dumb full moon ;) )
Seder Meals are an amazing way to bridge old and new testaments together but being born part Jew, it is also a great way to remember my heritage.
Holy Week in general is a very soulful week for us. A lot of inward searching of who we are in Christ goes on.
But what we do specifically with the kids...the cookies are a huge hit here. We also dress up and act out Palm Sunday or some other story close. This year on Friday night we are doing a garden prayer time (which thanks to Ohio weather and early Easter will probably be inside as they are calling for snow) in which we are going to teach our children why Jesus' prayer time in the garden is so powerful (ya know, Jesus asking God not to make Him go through with it, being so nervous He was sweating blood, irritated at His disciples for sleeping...alot of the behaviors we exhibit but PRAISE GOD! Jesus let His Father's will happen and allowed God to do what needed to be done. It is one of the very rare times that Jesus actually becomes human so we can relate).

It is not so much and Easter tradition but spring....The girls have waited all winter long for spring so when they found out today was the first day of spring we decided to have a "Welcome Spring Party". They painted flower pots and planted flowers and they now decorate our dining room table. Then we made Jello Egg Jigglers...and well they turned out in 1/2 egg form...I can never get those stinking things to turn out a whole egg...o well the kiddies loved them. Tonite we are grilling dinner and making spring cupcakes.....
As far as Easter traditions we are going to start doing the Resurrection eggs next year....probably should have started them sooner but next year will work just fine.
thanks ladies, I am going to try the resurrection cookies this year and I saved the link to buy the resurrection eggs for next year.
I found a book that we had gotten a couple years ago - One Surprising Morning. It's a great kids book, talks about Jesus in the temple (12 yo) and then a few miracles he performed, and then it talks about the events leading up to, the Last Supper, and arrest, and the whole Easter Story.....
So, we now have:
Watch Veggie Tales Easter Carol
Read One Surprising Morning
Make Resurrection cookies
Easter sugar cookies decorated with tasty clay
Resurrection eggs
I will space these out as a whole Easter weekend schedule...
Thanks again! I feel so much better about things... my heart was seeking!
