at what ages did your children give up their afternoon naps? my youngest is 20 months is not sleeping as much as she used to during the day. monday she slept about 1 1/2 hours during the day and yesterday not even 1/2 hour. she used to sleep 2 1/2 to 3 hours iin the afternoon. our routine for the naps has not changed, the older kids are not allowed upstairs while she is sleeping. by supper time she is tired and then will not eat a good meal. she is sleeping about 10 - 11 hours at night and rarely wakes up during the night.

My kids took an afternoon nap until they were in school all day which was kindergarten or first grade.

Mine have nap/quiet time for as long as possible. My just turned 5 yr old still sleeps half the time he goes down, the 2 yo almost always, unless she's 'wound up' and is in the living room. (I have to separate everyone, the 3 boys generally share a room)
But they/we all have a "quiet time" each day. If you nap, great! If not, that's ok too, just as long as you relax for a bit. They do their fun reading at this time, my elders that is, obviously not my toddlers/preschoolers hehe

I'd try to stick with a quiet time each day, around the same time. She may take a short 20-30 min. nap more often and be better rested later that evening than if you let her give them up completely.
Maybe, if you don't already do this and if you can manage it, this would be a good time to settle in with her and read a couple of stories, for 15 minutes or so, then to her room for quiet time and she can 'read' on her own. My 2 yr old insists on taking a book with her...so she can set it on her pillow and immediately fall asleep haha

We do things just as Tara explained. Gracie stopped taking her afternoon naps right about the time she turned three. But I realized real soon that for everyone's best (especially mommy's sanity  ) we will still have "quiet time" each day at the same time. If she falls asleep (after a long day or if she isn't feeling well) great, but it is not necessary as long as she stays in her room to play quietly. We call it quiet time for everyone because baby brother is sleeping and I am doing something quietly too (whether it is napping, taking a shower, on the computer, etc.). [sleep] Oh! And I do go read to her for about 15 minutes prior to quiet time as well. [read]

We also do a Big Girl Chart each week in which she can earn stickers = 25 cents for each day she earned all her stickers (gold stars). Having quiet time is one of them. This way she is rewarded in more than one way by obeying the rules of our house. ;)

Sam is 19 months and so far, she is still taking her afternoon naps. I told my MIL to keep her really active during the first part of the day and that way by about 12:30 or 1:00 she drops like a fly! Do you guys do really active activities?

Sam sleeps about 9 hrs. everynight and that's only because we wake her up at 6:00 to take her to my MIL's, if we didn't wake her tho, she would sleep from 10-12 hours!

yeah today graycie slept for 2 1/2 hours. i noticed this morning her bottom eye teeth are both poking through. maybe teething had something to do with her not sleeping as much during the day.

My twins are almost 4 and they still have a nap or they are asked to go off and play up in their playroom for a few hours if not.

Maybe bub only needs one nap now?

Mine are two and three years old and they still have a nap.. about two hours... they don't always sleep the whole two hours and sometimes my three year old doesn't sleep any of it! I let them both have toys in their rooms/beds and if they just want to play I don't mind... although they need naps because they find it much harder to be in a good mood if they don't... but as long as they give me a few hours of peace I feel better at least  My three year old starts knocking on his door when he's ready to get up LOL

Gabe was about two when he quit taking a nap.
Bri now takes two30 minutes naps during the day (he's almost 11 months) and then takes about a two hour nap at 6:00 then goes to bed around 9:30 or so. his routine is changing, so this may not be accurate, but it's close.
he's still only good for about two hours at a time, though.
