View Full Version : my trip to the ER
savedbygrace 03-06-2008, 11:05 PM Yes, the ER. Well it started on Wednesday morning. I ate a banana and a blueberry muffin, I knew it wouldn't hold me over so I ate some brown rice and marinated beef(bulgogi) with that I drank half a can of diet dr.peper. By 12 o'clock I ralphed it up.*ick, I know* but i did feel better and decided to drink a bottle of water. Miguel came home at 1:30 and we went to have lunch at my favorite place, Pacific Grill. I usually order the chicken fried steak with green chile gravy, but thought it best to stay away from anything spicy. So I ordered the seafood combination, fried tilapia, fried clam strips, and 2 fried shrip with french fries *healthy, i know* Well, I enjoyed it with that a drank two cups of tea. Around 4pm i started getting kind of lathargic, and a little icky. I had a headache and needed to lay down, but had stuff to do before church started. I got dressed and at 5:30 I sat down on the couch. "uhgghgh, I don't feel very well" maybe i'm gonna throw up again?! I start to get hot so I took off my sweater and the cold leather couch felt cool against my skin. "ughghghgg, I don't feel so good" Miguel asked if I wanted to stay home? No, i should be okay. I think I am going to barf, so I walf to the bathroom and my tummy starts cramping so bad I double over. I needed to throw up but felt like something might come out the other end of me too! But nothing! I start getting hotter so I take off the rest of my clothes. "ughghhgg, my stomache" "ughghghghgg" I layed down on the floor in my undies and tankk top, hoping the cold floor will cool me off. (what is it about the comfort of a cold bathroom floor when you are sick?) But unfortunely it didn't work. I broke out in a cold sweat and by this time Abby went to get daddy. "mommy is laying on the bathroom floor, she needs you" He comes in and he starts talking to me, but my ears start ringing..... I can't open my eyes when I'm in pain and I felt soooo weak. Next thing I know, he is trying to sit me up. I still don't know what he is saying, and Abby is crying. He goes and gets me some bottled water and helps me drink it. The ringing starts to go away, the cold sweat is gone, but my stomache hurts so bad. "do I need to call the ambulance? Do we need to go to the emergency room?" "you're scarying Abby" "think about the baby" I start to snap out of it and drank more water. I was still very weak and my stomache still hurt. So I said okay, lets go to the ER. He helped me get dressed and walk out to the car. By time the ER nurse got me back there, my tummy stopped hurting and I was extremely cold. They hooked me up to an IV they poked me and took a urine and blood sample. They evaluated the babies HB and he was find *thank God* I started feeling a lot better. We where there for about four hours, the tests come back. DEYDRATION!!!! yes, I feel stupid. S-T-U-P-I-D!! Since I threw up that morning, I lost all nutrients and didn't replesh them enough. So dehydration mixed with low blood suger = a trip to the ER.

Everybody...send Esther a case of water...and we will be checking in with you every 2 hours to see how much you've been drinking :p
Glad it wasn't anything more serious and that all is well now. How scary!
Dehydration is exactly why I had to go on Terbutalene at 33 weeks with my first DD! Scary stuff I tell ya! I'm so glad you're okay and it was a "quick fix" this time around!!!
Oh my goodness! Glad everything worked out okay though. I'm not feeling so hot myself today....just a cold, but in any case, I think *I* will go drink some water. Take care of yourself!
Cheryl 03-07-2008, 02:09 PM OH my goodness! I'm so glad it wasn't anything more serious. Please take care of yourself and rest today!! When I was in 3rd trimester, if I didn't drink enough, I got loads of braxton hicks. Always my clue to drink up! :-D

I know, I didn't think dehydration could be that scary. I thought I was doing an okay job, but I think when I threw up I lost whatever fluids I had.... Hoping that won't happen again. I'm having a hard time keeping my energy level up. I don't think my sugar is low, but I feel like I need to eat more and drink more.... I dunno.
Thanks everyone!
PianoMama 03-07-2008, 03:32 PM I *know* water is best too, Esther. But if I don't feel like drinking straight water, I'll have tea or water with lemon/lime or I put crystal lite drink mix in my water...just a few other ideas!
mamallama 03-07-2008, 04:45 PM Whew! Glad you are okay! I was sure you were going to say you had food poisoning or something. Take care of yourself and drink LOTS of fluids!!!! :)

Yah, Abby got pretty scared. It didn't help that dh panics in emergency situations. But Abby worries sometimes, because a close friend of ours lost her baby at 4 days old, and just had a miscarrige. Abby knows all of this and got really scared when I got sick and dad said we need to go to the emergency room. But once we were there she saw that they were helping me and she was okay. Later that evening and the next morning she gave me lots of extra snuggles and hugs!
JoyLynn 03-08-2008, 03:59 AM I'm glad you're okay, Esther! [hug]

pioneerchristianmomof3 03-08-2008, 01:42 PM wow! How scary! Glad you are ok! When I was first reading your post I thought maybe you had food poisoning.
jen1981 03-08-2008, 01:43 PM Be careful with caffeine because it is a diuretic. Diet Dr. Peper isn't caffeine free and some tea also has caffeine. Be sure a drink lots of water and if you have trouble with dehydration I would stay away from caffeine entirely.
4HisGlory 03-08-2008, 08:27 PM So glad you are feeling better and that baby is doing good! Keep drinking!
