Jon's First Birthday

Hey everyone~ :D

My baby's first birthday is coming up! (September 15th) [birthdaycake]
I have a couple of fun ideas: homemade double layer cake and I read in a magazine where you can use plain (noisemakers, ugh what is the name for them?) and cut out an elephant out of a foam sheet and add googly eyes for fun party favors (that would be great to get my oldest involved). [dance] We don't even have a theme yet, but... I thought about photocoping his b'day (day of his birth) picture and a recent one and making homemade invitations with a sort of then and now look. [thumbsup]

I was wondering if any of you creative ladies had any ideas or maybe those of you who have had cute parties for your little men's first could offer some suggestions??

I didn't theme my son's first birthday, but I made him an adorable turtle cake. I baked the body in a large stainless steel mixink bowl a,d the head in a smaller one. I frosted it all green, and added darker green patches to make it look (sort of ) like a shell. I used two oreos for the eyes and let him have the whole head!! I set it on a large piece of cardboard and added cardboard feet sticking out from beneath it and a little tail. (I'll have to see if I can find any pictures) It was spring so all the cousins basically just played outside...
