Hi,
Anyone out there have activity ideas for 17 month old dd? I am going to be home again in the Fall/Winter with my dd after working seasonally and I need some ideas apart from our usual playgroup stuff.
Thanks!

Here are a couple of things my 19 ds likes.

1) I mix up some bubbles, 1 part dishsoap to 6 parts water. I put it in a bucket or big tupperware and we take fly swatters or slotted spatulas dip them in and wave them around and we get big mounds of little bubbles. Most definitely an outdoor outside activity but very fun. Much easier for the little ones than traditional bubbles.

2) Freeze different color koolaids in an ice cube try with popsicle sticks in each ice cube. Then tape a heavy peice of white construction paper to the table and let her "paint" with the icecubes. No harm if she takes a taste.

3) My ds also love word games/ songs like "Criss Cross Applesauce" and "Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes"

I hope this helps I look forward to seeing other suggestions, I'm always looking for new things to do with DS.

My little ones always loved sidewalk chalk, hide and seek and play cooking. They loved getting wooden spoons and lots of plastic bowls and helping me cook.

My little boy loves the sandbox, so for fall/winter, I put dried beans or rice in a large rubbermaid container with short sides and put his cars and trucks and scoopers in it for digging fun in the kitchen! Great to teach fine motor skills! We started this at exactly your child's age!

My son just turned one year old. I am interested to read the suggestions here. He does love the Bubbles now. He is completely facinated by them! I imagine by 17 mos. the games become more interactive. A friend of mine's blog had a list of her sons favorite games, I believe her son is two:
His modified hide-and-seek game, where he seeks .
Peek-a-boo - a forever favorite, though it has now been expanded to covering the duck’s eyes and him covering our eyes.
The tickle monster - now with retaliation from the “button ‘ickle” master!
The clothes chase - any mention of clothes or diapers elicits a mad flight around the house, with him cackling all the while.
1-2-3-jump!! Off of anything, especially the edge of the pool and the coffee table - jumping from the coffee table to the couch is a fun thing too, apparently.
Speaking of the couch, it’s time to play “toss all the pillows off the couch and cackle hysterically”!!
Hop, bounce, leap - the couch and the bed both make great bouncing places, tho the floor works as well.
Spin me around until I get super dizzy, then I’ll try to walk while laughing hysterically. Good for laughs all the way around!
The alphabet game - we have to point to each letter as it is sung by the alphabet toy, over and over and over. He’ll also single out one letter to repeat over and over again….
Lining random items up and counting them - then knocking them down and starting over!
The kiss psyche - making kissy faces and noises, running towards you, then at the last second running backwards, laughing with glee.
Turning the TV on and off and on and off and on……
“Talking” to the dog - barking, whining, feeding her imaginary tea, playing peek-a-boo, etc.

One of my first thoughts was the edible crafts though I've never done popsicle paint and will have to give it a try.

Finger painting was a personal favorite when my son was 1 1/2... also started letting him use crayons at that age. Someone else mentioned cooking which has always been a favorite activity as well. And one more, "treaure hunting" walking outside at the baby's pace letting him collect all kinds of interesting things- acorns and leaves, rocks, bugs, well you know

Sam is 19 months, but I stayed at home with her when she was 17 months and we'd listen to music, dance & sing along. We'd watch a couple of shows together and sing & dance along with that as well and I bought this book from the Christian Bookstore with a whole bunch of rhymes (with actions) and songs that baby and their parents can do together. She also liked sitting on my lap and reading books together, she's memorized some of them  it's funny and sweet to hear her read with you!
