Ok thought you might want a heads up - yesterday I had a mcdonald's happy meal. YES, I know it's not the healthiest thing LOL. but bear with me.

Anyhow they were advertising something called the "Spiderwick chronicles" -- my friend tells me it's a movie, i've never heard of it though. So whatever.

The main this is on the happy meal bag were instructions for how to cast a "circle of protection" around your food. I was in shock. Talk about trying to condition children to witchcraft early on. Anyhow thought you might want to know, in case you want to explain to your kids how we trust Jesus for protection and we don't cast spells, etc. I am sure some kids will read the bag and do it without realizing what it actually is and some parents might not even notice.... so... yeah. Crazy!! I can definitely see how doing "fun" things like that (putting a circle of protection around their food) sets up them for acceptance to things like wicca, etc early on!!

I got my kids those happy meals the other day; thank God neither of them can read. I have friends who have dabbled in witchcraft, tarot cards and such and my education on the subjects isn't something bad in my life, but for a young child? Come on!!! Can you imagine the outrage if the tried printing a simple prayer?

Thanks for the heads up. Isn't there a saying about how when God and good are becoming evident, evil fights back in full force. I know I badgered that saying but its in my head somewhere just the wording is way off. Anyone know please correct me.

Thank you Cheese, if we eat there i will certainly explain this to the children from the start.

oh my, that is very interesting! We don't buy happy meals b/c my kids can only eat the french fries there and even then I am not sure if they are totally gluten free, oh well!!! Thanks for the heads up!!

Resident vegetarian here. :) Ack, how do they sneak Satan into everything? How annoying!

Thanks for the heads up! Though it is not surprising, it is still horrible!

I have heard of this movie and was unsure about whether or not my children who are 5 and 3 should see it......but dh and I had decided against it. I am glad that we made that decision knowing this now.....we buy happy meals every once in awhile....but I always take the kids food out of the bag/box so they never see it. Yes it is scary how Satan finds his way into all kinds of places.....

cheese- just got a happy meal today and didn't even notice that on the box- weird. But the toy was this creepy green monster thing that was a little eeky for a happy meal toy. . .oh, well, can't win them all. I pychotically collected all the cronicle of narnia toys when they were in the happy meals, I almost freaked when thought I wasn't going to be able to get the last one. I did the same thing with the wizard of oz ones (even called to stores in other towns looking for dorathy as it would be completely terrible to have all the other characters and not dorathy). Is that complusive or what?! I don't anticipate collecting these.

Its everywhere. Ive bought some bubble bath stuff for myself a few years back and realized later it had a spell on it, dh threw it out, I cant remember what the spell was. Now you cant go to your local library to get good old fashioned Little House on the Prairie books anymore. They are all stocked up, completely overloaded with books about wicca, witchcraft, spells. All in the guise of Narnia like storylines. You have to order the decent books out from other libraries. But, wow a mcd's happy meal. dh hates mcd's anyway. I do to but not so vehemently. I think this could be the final nail in the coffin for mcd's for us.

Did you throw away the toy? I would. seriously.

I didn't take the toy - it was so ugly we just handed it back to the person and DH was like "We don't want this." They gave me some cookies instead.

My first reaction? I laughed. You gotta be kidding me! If you gotta place a "protection spell" around your food I'd be concerned what the heck you're putting in your body that it needs a spell. I mean when we pray we thank God FOR the food not to protect us FROM it. Anyway...

Lots of things geared towards children are inappropriate when you look and listen closely enough. Even Spongebob and Dora have had references in them that Dh and I had to look at each other. All I can say is moniter. We don't even let the kids have the toys when they DO get the happy meals (you should see the looks when we refuse them). First: they'd fight over it, second: who needs more loose junk in our house and third: some of the toys are just well....CREEPY!!

Thanks though for the heads up! What ever happened to Snoopy and Holly Hobby? :( ~Kerri

Snoopy was just in the Burger King meals for kids...now I think it is trucks and dolls or something. I know this was off-topic, but when I saw Snoopy, I had to reply.

Oh that is sad! Usually it's little kids who get happy meals - who wants to give their little kids nightmares?
Just gotta put a plug in for Chick-fil-A. I got a kids meal there over the weekend and the bag had little quizzes and nice pictures with educational animal facts, and the toy was a little animal puzzle thing. I really like Chick-fil-A; i think it's owned by a Christian. I know they aren't a nationwide chain though like mcdonald's though - actually mcd's is a worldwide chain.

Yep, I agree....go to to Chick-fil-A if you have one near you. A teensy bit healthier choices for the kids and yourself. Christian owned...in fact several of the stores here have their mission statement posted on the wall in giant letters and it's something about glorifying God while working to serve families, def not the exact quote there but it's awesome that they put that up on the wall. They play Christian music on the in store radio. And the toys are either educational or virtues based.

I love love love Chick-fil-a. Unfortunately, the nearest one is like 45 minutes away, so I haven't been in a long time. I really wish there was one closer...

wow...thanks for sharing that. My son has been asking to see that movie and I told him I didn't know anything about it...so the answer was no. Now I need to call the grandparents and inform them! Thanks for passing that info along!

DD had her first happy mean in a long time last night. Thankfully, as much as she is into reading everything she sees, the print on a Happy Meal box is too small to interest her much.
I however, read the box carefully (from reading this tread, thanks girls). I didn't see a spell on the box now, I did see lots of references to "the book", spell book? But I did notice that they are promoting a PG movie. I have to wonder, in movies today, I see questionable things in G movies, what in the world are they going to show in a PG? Is this what they really want to push the kids to? Are there no G or family movies out there? Not to mention that these little goblins are quite scarey looking.

Tobikay...there wasn't anything like that our boxes either...hmmmm maybe it was something more regional. Ohio is fairly conservative, I don't think something like that would fair well.......

Regardless, not seeing the movie. The previews have given my children nightmares :(

Thanks for the heads up! Ds got a happy meal over the weekend and the first thing I did was check for anything questionable. There was no spell, but the toy was creepy so I tossed it before ds noticed.

I wish there was a Chik-fil-A near here.

You and me both!! The nearest one is an hour and a half from here! We love that they are always so nice there! There is always Christian music playing and it's always so tidy and clean! No worries. My kids love the indoor play center too..

Sinead had a happy meal yesterday with that movie on but we did not read the box we never do it goes straight into the bin.

Will have to check this one out next time we are in, cause it should not promote witch craft on a happy meal. I think is should be proting better eating habits and nothing at all to do with religion, we have a wide range of religions over here and it is bound to cause offence to some one if it has a christian message on iykwim.
