How long is it normal for babies to be constipated after weaning off breast milk? I don't understand why my 5 week DS is constipated and having hard poops. He was on exclusive soy formula the first 3 days in the hospital and was fine, then I breastfeed and supplimented soy formula, and if he would have a hard poop I would just breastfeed for the whole day. Now that he is just on soy formula he has been constipated, but is now pushing out hard poops. I had to use Karo Syrup quite often but now I'm not. So he is able to push some out but it's with a lot of grunting and crying and they're always small. Anyway, if anyone has any experience or a similar story with their baby I'd like to hear...TIA :)

I remember my sister saying that when she switched to formula, bm's switched to the consistency of playdough, which of course is a far cry from the poops of an exclusively breastfed baby. I don't know if your ds is having poops harder than that, but I do remember her saying that her girls were a bit uncomfortable during the transition getting used to the changes. Sorry I can't be of more help...
