Is it going to be inside or outside? I would try and have some basic things for the older ones to do. If it is outside I would just give them some basic outdoor toys. Inside it might help to be a little more structured. But you shouldn't have to spend your whole day intertaining the older kids. You need time to have adult converstation and to relax and enjoy the party.

I agree. This is your son's birthday. We had older children at our son's but they entertained themselves (of course that wasn't hard since there was a pool). I might have some games (maybe frisbee or hackysack...I am SO dating myself!) depending whether outside or in for them but otherwise you should concentrate on YOUR child and HIS fun 8) Hope all goes well and ya'll have a wonderful time!!! ~Kerri

Pin the tail on the donkey would be fun and of course a pinata too. Stephanie

Do both. You could have them swim for a bit (Daniel LOVED this part), then eat and sit down watch a movie, when that is over then open presents...end of party! It's hard to keep a 1 yr old's attention so you don't want it to be too long. Again...best of luck! Oh! and I think Oriental Trading Company or Shindigz has Veggie Tales stuff if you want it on the cheap (I totally dig savin' a buck!). ~Kerri

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for a spring or Elmo theme party? It is for my dd, and we have a small apartment so I am planning on just having a casual drop in play thing and they can decorate their own cupcakes, something like that. I am hoping it will be a nice day so maybe we could go to the park. I am just planning on doing it for an hour.

We just celebrated our dd's 1st birthday last Saturday. We had 5 children (including her), their parents, the oldest was 2 years old and the other children were 17 months, 13 months and 9 months. We just planned it for an hour and informed everyone in the invitations it was an informal drop in play party and everyone enjoyed themselves talking, eating cake and the children played with the toys. It was a success! Even the 2 year old enjoyed it thoroughly too. We have a great picture of all the children lined up on the couch together! It is so cute!

Since it is her first birthday We are inviting just our close family...which is only 12 people and only one is another child about 11 yrs old. So we have decided we are gonna let them play under the water hose, sprinkler(going to buy a kid friendly one at wal-mart), and bought a small pool at wal-mart(only 6.99). We also got a swing set that just needs painting from a free site online...from someone here locally...they just wanted someone to come and get it. It has all the parts and is in good condtion...just needs re-painting. So we are gonna re-paint it and put it up for her by her b-day. Which means that my neice can play on it with her. So I'd say between the swing set and playing in the water....they are gonna have a fun day. As for stuff to do for veggies tales... Maybe you can:
***print off coloring sheets for them to color
****Make some inexpensive play dough and let them make their fave ****veggie tales character.
****Some party stores have cookies you can actually draw or color on...most come 13.99 for 12 ...they could draw their fave character on their cookie and get to eat it. Actually you may be able to bake your own cookies and go to a cake supply store for the eatable drawing markers.
****If all else fails older kids love musical chairs.
also you can do bean bag toss - decorate a box as a Veggie character and have them throw the bags in the mouth. There's games that 1-5 can all enjoy.
pin the plunger on Larry
for a snack - get short wide plastic cups, put some ranch in the bottom, then have veggies in the cup (individual veggies and dip, can prepare ahead of time.
