Up until now, I never really bothered with pumping. But lately when I have extra to spare, I pump it and either throw it in a cup and give it to her later or put it in the freezer.

One night when she was crying, my DH gave her some pumped milk in a cup, instead of me nursing. She started calming down right away as soon as she tasted the milk!

So apparently, mother's milk from any source is a good calming tool! Any other moms seen this phenomenon?

I pumped with my ds for the two afternoons that I was teaching. He seemed to do ok with it.

I am strictly pumping and feeding and I find that he just gets really calm and almost comatose when he gets my milk :) I think its just comfort to them no matter how they get it.

Wow! That takes a lot of dedication. Is Payton having some latch problems and therefore not able to feed directly? In Hannah's first few weeks, we dealt with thrush. Not fun at all. :(
I expressed for her once or twice and I cannot imagine the amount of dedication that it takes to do that full time. But once the thrush was over, things mellowed out and we've been going strong for almost 18 months now! :) So it does get better.

Let me know if I can be of any help to you. (((HUGS)))

Yes, he has a very lazy suck if that makes sense and he gets extremely frustrated and cries when laid anywhere near the breast. I couldn't get him to latch on and after 24 hours had to start pumping and feeding him with a bottle which made him even more lazy. I haven't been able to get him to latch on at all though I am still trying. It is a lot of work but I am determined to give him breast milk. I pump about every 2 hours, during the day and about once or twice a night. I was quite devastated at not being able to breastfeed but I've kind of worked through it. I do intend on continuing with pumping as I am getting a great milk supply going :)

Just a word of encouragement--many moms have gotten the baby to latch later! So if you still want to try, it's not over! Actually I can think of a few on this board, mom n luv, for example, and Kensbev.
