ds has had a fever (103) all day and had diarreha. He had motrin this morning early and that broke the fever. But of course it's up high again because it's the evening. I just tried to give him some tylenol and he threw up! Poor baby! It was the first time ever. Needless to say, the medicine didn't stay down. He didn't eat all day but he did have some Pedialite and he has been urinating. All he wanted was to go to sleep. Is it ok that I put him to bed with a temp? It makes me nervous! We did go to the dr today and she said to try tylenol but he can't keep it down! Help, please...

Oh poor guy. My dd had the problem of not keeping tylenol down as well. My Dr. said it was ok to try again if you are comfortable that they threw it all up right away. It is fine to let them sleep as long as the fever is less than 39.4 or 103 degrees. You want to sponge and bring it down if it is that high, and make sure to cover them lightly or not at all. My kids hated being stuck in the bath so I usually just bring a small bowl of water and a cloth and sponge them that way. The water evaporating helps to cool them if you sponge their foreheads neck back and head. You just do not want to get them shivering. Sometimes it helps to put on a movie if they are really hating the sponging.:-D
Hope that helps.

don't fret about him not keeping the meds down...
a fever is the body's natural defense against infection..it's a good thing ;)
yes, keep an eye on things, keep him as comfy as you can, offer pedialyte
just let the fever and therefore this illness, run its course
watch for signs of something 'more serious' ... if he gets lethargic, then put in a call or take him in
but for the most part, a fever is nothing to fret over nor fight
I'd just keep him somewhere close
Lay him down in the living room until you're ready to head to bed..then bring him with you (doesn't have to mean in bed with you, could just be on the floor nearby..just somewhere 'close' so you're more aware of his state of being)
that's what *I* would do anyway

I forget what it's called but you can get Tyelonol in the form of a suppository to bring the fever down. I will be praying.
Thanks so much, girls. I feel so much better. I will keep you posted but tomorrow is a new day:)
we pretty much do what Tara does.
I hope your little guy feels better soon!
He slept through the night and his fever broke. PTL! He woke up this morning, had a little Pedialyte and is now still sleeping (3 hours later)!!! Hopefully the long sleep will make him feel better. Thanks for your help!

a good way to cool little ones and get fluid into them if drinking is too much for them....I make pedialite and fruit juice popcicles...or just buy some! then lay them on a towel and let them suck on them to get fluid, but slowly so it doesn't upset the tummy as much...the cool temp is good for cooling them too....

My instinct was to put babe in bed when sick... however the risk of having to change your bedding numerous times greatly increases.
We learned the hard way! hehe - but it made him feel so mcuh better.

when katherine ran a bad fever we stuck in her in a lukewarm bath. it brought her fever down, made her feel better, and she liked her special extended bath playtime.
