View Full Version : Nursing pads
How many washable nursing pads are you supposed to have in your possession? I got 12 today, do you all think that will be enough?
I am keeping them in sealed packets just incase it doesn't work out like last time, that way I can sell them on e-bay.

I think twelve is a good number to have. I didn't leak alot that is unless I forgot to put in a pad and then I would have a nice wet spot on my blouse :D ! I can't remember how often I had to change mine but it wasn't real often, maybe two or three times a day??? Some women produce lots of milk and leak alot but I didn't. I think you're doing the right think by using washable ones because I used the disposable ones and several times I had them dry to my nipple and when I took them off I would have part of them stuck to me  . Stephanie :D

the disposables will absorb a little more than cloth, but still twelve should be plenty.

I leaked a lot, so I did use the disposable. I changed mine after every shower. Once your milk settles down & the baby is on a routine, your milk won't be as crazy .. just watch out for crying babies...wwwoooooosh!
Twelve disposables should be enough. You'll probably wash them with babies clothing or yours, because of the scent. Not with hubbies!
Sounds like enough to me! I only have about 6. I'll have to either persuade my mum into making some more out of cloth diapers or I'll have to use disposables as well. They are so expensive. :(
12 sounds good. I leaked a lot, though. You can always get more if you feel you need them.

12 sounds great! I had 8 and had to wash them quite a bit.
Steph... sticking to the nipples? That sounds AWFUL  Can't you put like unscented talc powder or cornflour on the breasts to stop this and then whipe it off before b/f?
Yes, I didn't really want to use disposables because of the cost - 8.00 per box ongoing is a bit much, but perhaps I should take some disposables to hospital? Wouldn't be very nice for me to hand them over to DH and ask him to wash them for me now would it LOL.
Oh, I will remember not to wash them with his clothes either ROTF. Can you imagine him going to work in his uniforms smelling like baby/milk etc.
I had no idea about that thanks for the tip!!!
I am so nervous about b/f! Some people made me feel like a real failure when it didn't happen last time.

NO NO NO - do not let anyone make you feel anything if you are unable to nurse. It happens. Just talk to someone & see if you are able to come up with some answers or just have a good support team.
For pitties sake YOU HAD TWINS>.. I watched my sis do this with her twins -- she did not enjoy it at all. But let me tell you I admire you for even trying.
If you can - you will, If not... you are still one AWESOME MOMMY!!!

I would imagine Lansinoh would prevent this. Just putting a dab of Lanolin on your nipples after every feed and after you shower etc...
The times I used disposable pads I didn't have them stick to my nipples but I leaked quite a bit. They used to move around in my bras which was very annoying. :x They wouldn't stay in place.

[rofl] I don't think he will mind washing them! And I don't think after washing them that you'd smell the baby milk on other clothes.

I have 20 pr. I work out though, so I need to change them throughout the day. See if the hospital will give you some to take home. They gave me 2 boxes of disposable to use when milk comes in, and also to stash in ziplocs in the diaper bag ;)
Hi Aussie mum,
I wish I'd had washable pads from the beginning I went through that many dispossable ones I would have saved a bundle  . I finally got some when my milk had settled down so I didn't leak much then. oh well at least I've got some if there is a next time :D
I admire you for trying to b/f twins :) I only have one and I very nearly gave up b/f her. What helped me through was finding the aba website it had lots of helpful info on there and they even have b/f counsellors that you can ring or email and they're excellent, because they're just everyday mums who have been there done that. So if you find that you need help this time around maybe you can give them a call. Just a thought.
yes, i will admit last time it was just such a relief to have formula.
When I left hospital there were 3 other twin Mum's in there along with me and only one of them was continuing to try and b/f and she had had four other children and she was really battling to b/f her twins.
If I have problems and I can forsee that it will work out I will just speak to my current midwife.
