Oh my goodness...I've been caffene free since 2004 but after having to return to work and manage life with baby Grace now, I'm am truly struggling for energy at work. My energy and concentration for work is at an all time low.

I hate the thought of ingesting any stimulant for a morning "boost."

1. Is it ok to have caffene while BF?

2. Any alternatives to a more "natural" energy boost?

Please HELP...dozing as I type...lol.

I think it is just fine! I did! Maybe go decaf instead if you're really worried about it since it still has caffine in it anyway and just a little in your system after such a long time without it would probably do the trick! Your little one is old enough to be past colic for the most part, so as long as they don't have reflux or a lot of spitting up issues, I'd think one cup would be just fine! Good luck!

Oh, sweety I hear you about the energy thing! From what I've heard, coffee can be addictive, so if possible it would be good to find alternatives. I'm afraid I don't know any off hand though. Let me check and get back to you....

I was a bad bf'ing mommy and even more horrible when I was preggo. I drank two cups of coffee daily and the doctor said that one cup wasn't bad but two was pushing it.

"They" say caffeine is a 'no'. But, in small amounts, really, it's ok...pg or nursing. (higher amounts during pg has been connected to low birth weight, just fyi) Some babies are more sensitive to it..you'll find that out rather quickly after ingesting some ;)

One cup of coffee/tea or a soda has been deemed as 'acceptable'.

I, too, have been a bad pg/bf mommy and took in more caffeine than I should have. My babies let me know when I overdid it, while nursing. They'd be fussy/restless. Some would be so if I barely finished one soda. Others...it would take 3 in a day before they'd react.

Okay, some thoughts...do you co-sleep? I find that I usually am way more rested when I co-sleep with DD. She's 17 months old and still co-sleeps parttime because I am too lazy to get up, LOL.

Here's some energy tips that I found on the web:

(Mods, if posting links isn't allowed, then take it off. I just posted the link because it was neater and took less space than copying and pasting the info)

Do you take vitamins? Also, you may want to check into some superfoods or something to help you out. There was one that a friend told me about once, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name.

Personally, I have never had issues with Coffee or sodas... I have always had about two servings of caffiene a day and have never had issues... if I did ever think it was having ill effects I just took it down to one a day or nil... but I never had to. My babies were all very healthy weights and even while nursing I never noticed any issues with my babies... it all depends on you and how your baby handles it, if your body even processes it the same as everyone else... you may not notice a difference in her at all... I could always tell when something I was eating/drinking was effecting the baby and could just cut out that thing.

I take Perfect Food Super Green Formula from Garden of Life. It is awsome stuff. It doesnt taste awsome though! I mix it with a little water and chug but since morning sickness is appearing for me already I have to take it in the evening after dinner or it makes me gag. Before being pregnant it wasnt hard for me to stomach it.. its best with a glass of orange juice in the morning.

I drink pepsi all the time. Have noticed no ill effects. We have been dealing with colic but it turned out to be caused by onions/garlic/cabbage, stuff like that. :-)

Really the only thing I worry about while bfing is whether something is causing gas, or medications. Medications I would be really careful with (i don't take anything while bfing except tylenol if i need it). Also I wouldn't drink TONS of caffeine - on these energy drinks my dh drinks sometimes, i noticed it said "Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women." SO yeah, i don't drink those. But a pepsi once in awhile... is ok.

My doctor would tell me that a cup of coffee a day was fine. However i hardly drank caffine while preggo. While i breastfeed i probably drank more but still not an everyday thing. But when i did drink it i had no problems with my kiddos.

I never drank coffee until I became a mom. I definatly need it to just get through my day. I drink a BIG cup a day. I do find that I can't drink coffee later then noon otherwise Josh will have a hard time sleeping at night.

Well ladies.....I'm back to being caffene free....I tried a half a cup the past few mornings and ......(pause to yawn).....Grace doesn't like it one bit.

Since 3 months she's slept 12hours a nite (BIG praises for that!) and since consuming caffene she's up twice a nite now and very *irritated* when normally she's a gentle spirit.

Soooo, it's back to caffene free me....(roll of the eyes), how will I get thru my work day...yaaawwwwwnnn....zzzzzz.....

Have you tried taking a B12 vitamin? I am not sure if this will help or not.
