For those ladies that nursed your babies into toddlerhood and beyond, how did you balance your toddler's obvious desire to nurse with your desire for another baby?
Did you wait longer for a pregnancy, tandem nurse, or wean during your pregnancy?

I know some mom's that had to nurse both kids at the same time. But also my friend had a 2 year old that still nursed. When his mommy got pregnant, within a couple of weeks he stopped all on his own.
I nursed Abby for 18 months, and was not yet ready to ttc #2, But I think if you want to start ttc, then go for it. take things one step at a time. especially if you don't get pregnant as fast or as soon as you thought you would.

I was still nursing and not yet having 'baby lust' when I got pg with my next.
However they continued to nurse for a couple of months into the pregnancy. They were on their way to weaning as it was, hence my fertility returning (my period hasn't come back before 1 yr with any of them..more like 14 mo on average and the child is completely weaned between 14-16 mo (average) )
I say..if you desire another baby, try for it. Once pg if you decide it's time to wean, then do so. If you want to carry on, carry on. If you end up tandem nursing, so be it. :)
Girl..just let it happen. Relax. Make those decisions as you come to them.

My daughter was 3 and still nursing. I than found out I was pregnant. About that time I talked to her and told her that mommy was having another baby and I needed to get ready for the baby and that the baby was going to need to nurse. She was ok with that and we had no problem weaning.

My cycle returned when my daughter was 4 months even though I was exclusively breastfeeding, so I knew I didn't need to stop bfding in order to get pregnant. My daughter is 10 months old now and I plan to continue breastfeeding as long as she wants to and as long as my milk supply holds out (since becoming pregnant, it's taken a bit of a dip and I've had to supplement with formula a little). I say if you want to TTC now, go for it!

This is what happened to me, my then 2 yr old (he is 3 now) weaned himself during the first trimester I was pg with my second child.
I felt so blessed that he stopped on his own because I really did not want to have to force him to wean or nurse both kids at once and had been praying about it.

I am on my second pg while nursing our DD. I got pg with Noah when Emma was just under a year, and nursing A LOT. She nursed through the whole pg, and after Noah passed, was very happy to have milk back! She's still nursing, and I'm pg again. I know some people do have issues with fertility while nursing, and my OB told me I probably wouldn't get pg while nursing, but as we can see....not true for us. I got pg with Noah without meds, and this one with Clomid!
I don't think Emma will wean herself anytime soon. She askes to nurse ALL day still....silly girl!
