View Full Version : Pre-labor signs?
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 08:42 AM For those of you who have had previous babies, what pre-labor signs did you get? The other day, I started having cramping pains all afternoon and by evening had "loose bowels." I've read that those pains and diarrhea (sorry if TMI) can be a sign of pre-labor/your body getting ready for birth.
So how did it happen for you?
Only 5 days till my due date....3 days till my midwife comes back from vacation!
Kerina 08-04-2006, 09:39 AM Sounds like your getting there. Have you passed your mucus plug? I did that a week before my first was born, so it doesn't mean you'll go into labor, but you have to do that at some point. Hope you can make it until she comes back. :)
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 10:38 AM No, I don't think that I've passed the mucus plug yet. Looks like the baby is hanging on at least until my midwife gets back! Oh, by the way, I heard that women are more likely to go into labor on the full moon. Well, guess what? My due date is on the full moon!
love2bmom 08-04-2006, 10:59 AM I don't know about the full moon thing, but an excess in discharge is a good sign that you are thinning. Any regular contractions. I never went into normal labor, but did loose my mucus plug and had lots of discharge.
Cross your legs :D
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 11:42 AM Yay! So that's why I'm having more discharge. I didn't know that. Thanks, Nici!
Crissyanna 08-04-2006, 02:36 PM You have no idea how jealous I am that you are so close. I know, I know, my time will come :D .
Sorry if this is a gross question, but what kind of discharge is it? I've been extremely wet, but not mucusy. I think the kid is jumping on my bladder and I'm leaking more that way, but I am petrified of my bag rupturing or springing a leak this early (two and a half more weeks and I'm in the safer zone for that one, but I really want this baby on her due date. It is my husband's late father's birthday and we think that would be really special for Dainyah to be born on her grandpa's birthday, you know?) Sorry if my leaking was TMI.
Ruth, if you think you may start labor before your midwife gets back, hang upside to have gravity help hold the kid in for a while. Might help [whistle]
Kerina 08-04-2006, 02:48 PM Crissyana, The mucus plug looks like snot, it may or may not come all at once, and it may or may not have blood in it. I might call on the leaking if you aren't sure it is urine. Even the doctors want to test the fluid because they couldn't tell you where it cam from either.
Don't worry about TMI. We are Mommies. We have been spit up on, peed on, we've cleaned vomit in the middle of the night... We can handle it.
Crissyanna 08-04-2006, 03:52 PM I go to the midwife again on Monday and I'll ask. Dainyah is acting normally, so I'm not too worried about her right now. But I felt very weird last night. Hard to explain. I think it is urine, but I am being paranoid after the stress of everything that I've had to deal with in the past month. And, when my mom was preggo with me, I dropped at six months, and she was in bed for the last three with me. I have decided to take it easy today and the rest of the weekend. Been a long month, and I may never get the chance the relax again.....Though, the nesting has started to kick in.
I've had all the nasty kid stuff on me too. Comes from having worked in day care and as a teacher. .

LOL, yeah it's exciting to be almost done. I feel like I've definitely paid my "Pregnancy Club Dues" as I know that you have. You'll be there really soon! :) :)
My mucus doesn't feel mucusy either, so I guess that it's possible that I'm leaking amniotic fluid. I don't really know. If you have a history of pre-term labor in your family, it doesn't hurt to be careful. Sounds like you've been through a lot lately. I'm sure that it wouldn't hurt to lie down and take a break.
I got into a tremendous nesting fury the last few weeks. Good thing, too. Our house needed it. My midwives were favorably impressed with the condition of our house when they came over, so so far so good.
Well, currently I'm 4 days past what would be my Naegle EDD and 5 days until I hit my Prem EDD. So we'll see when the kiddo shows up. If he/she could avoid being more than two days early that would be nice, although I don't think that hanging upside down is approved by my midwife. LOL, ROTFL.
Hang in there! If you have concerns it never hurts to ask your midwife, just for peace of mind.
love2bmom 08-04-2006, 05:40 PM Your mucus plug will be slimey, and thick. When was your last U/S? Just talk to your midwife.. she will let you know if it is amniotic fluid. Just keep your feet up ladies & enjoy the rest !!
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 06:26 PM Yeah, I probably would know if I had passed the mucus plug.
I haven't had any ultrasounds at all my whole pregnancy. I think that it's probably just normal discharge. My midwife has never expressed any concern when I described my mucus to her, so it's probably fine.
stephwhiz 08-04-2006, 06:50 PM I was induced with both of my babies but with that said, I did have loose bowels for a few days before I was induced so I know I was getting very close. I also passed my mucus plug with my son but not my daughter.
I'll be praying for you!
Stephanie :D
e&m'sirishmum 08-05-2006, 01:59 AM Sounds like your getting close, but hopefully your little one will wait until Monday or after! But at the end of the day they come when they are ready and we have not too much control over that!
I didn't realize your were due so soon, even though your ticker is right there clearly for me to see :) I am excited to hear your good news!!
I found a photo of the mucus plug on the internet once... if anyone wants to see it I can try and find it again and post a link. Otherwise I won't do the TMI thing because I don't want to gross anyone out LOL
I hope your time comes soon! I had the diarrheoa and extra discharge thing but it must have just been me  because it didn't mean a thing. I went two weeks overdue and had to be induced
