Good afternoon y'all,

I have a quick question for you. I just started the lessons on www.fertilityfriend.com (http://www.fertilityfriend.com), and I cannot wait for the answer. The best time this cycle is approaching quickly. I am still fairly new to TTC, so please excuse my ignorance. What exactly am I looking for when I am looking for EWCM? Between EWCM and an OPK, I am hoping to figure out when I will O. I have been unable to start temping since our business schedule has been absolutely unpredictable. I have not gotten up at the same time at all this week. It seems out of the question to start now. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!

I am by no means an expert on this subject as I have just started down this road myself. That said, EWCM is exactly what it sounds like. I notice it when I wipe...it is a clear, stretchy discharge that resembles egg whites. HTH

EWCM can be stretched several inches between your thumb and pointer finger. It's fairly clear and can come in 'patches'. If you even think you have this, BD by all means!!! As you get more familiar with checking you CM, you will get accustomed to what your body's most fertile type of CM is. Keep asking questions!

Thanks ladies!

I am so glad that I have a group of ladies who will answer all of my naive questions. Your explanations make sense. I have seen pictures in books that resemble your descriptions. I am curious, though. I have a few more questions:

1. During my "fertile time", there are no burning sensations after BD. Is this a result of the EWCM? Since the EWCM provides a safe environment for the sperm, I assume that its pH is similar and that is why there is no burning. I have attributed the burning to the differences in pH. Or is this burning during "non-fertile" times an issue that I need to get checked out?

2. The day after BD, there is also a discharge. Is it still possible to "find" the EWCM if there is both types of discharge?

Again, just to reiterate, I was on Depo-Provera for the first eight years of my marriage. I did not have AF or a regular cycle during that time. Then, when my cycle returned to normal, we were not ready for TTC. So, within the last six months or so, I have been learning a lot about my body. I just do not want you to think that I am that ignorant! Again ladies, keep the advice coming (as you can see, I can certainly use it:-D). Thanks!

Megan,

I'm not sure if it's the pH that causes the change in sensation during BD, or the difference in viscosity (ie. how well the CM lubricates you). That could be the difference too!

Also, our bodies naturally produce more CM when you BD so that things go more smoothly (including the little guys' swim) so it's natural to have more discharge after BDing.

Hope that helps!

Ladies,

Again, thank you for the information. Based on what I have seen today, DH and I will need to BD the next couple of days. My discharge is clear and stretchy, and the OPK test was positive. Now, I just pray that a BFP falls within God's plan for us this month. We would appreciate your prayers. Just last night, we visited a couple of friends who just had a baby three days ago. Holding a precious miracle like him is what makes being patient on this journey so difficult.

[thankssign]

You shouldn't be experiencing burning after bding, are you getting wet enough? If not you may want to buy some pre-seed. it is a sperm friendly lube.
Also, if you bd, and check your cm the next moring it won't be very accurate because it is semen obscured. what you do is get of clear glass of water, check your cm, put your cm in the cup. if it clumps together then that is fertile cm, if it starts to string and disappear then that is semen.

sometimes, you can have a mix of cm. a little creamy with some stretchy clear ewcm. mark it down as the more fertle cm.
