View Full Version : Anyone having cravings??
Kerina 08-03-2006, 11:04 PM I don't really have them so much, as I just feel like eating different things, especially if I see them or hear about them. I just watched Bobby Flay make breakfast, and scrambled eggs with cheese sounds really good right now. I heard if you have naseau while pregnant you should eat what you want because it probably wouldn't bother you.
Does anyone like crazy combinations??
I think my only crazy combo was in my 1st pregnancy. I liked having ranch on a lot of foods, including chili. But then I saw Sonic was selling a ranch chili dog, so it's not just me. :)
Madre 08-04-2006, 12:29 AM With one of my pregnancies I used to like pimento stuffed green olives and ginger ale.
Madre, I was so into the pimento stuffed green olives in my first pregnancy, I would eat them for breakfast and make DH feel sick LOL.
Is Ranch okay to eat during pregnancy? Wasn't sure about that one because the recipe mentions eggs and I wasn't sure if they were raw (same as mayo) or not.
I craved mornay styled foods in the beginning... and big huge steaks with mashed potatoe and heaps of gravy! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 08:09 AM Maybe it's because I'm in the 3rd trimester during the summer months, but I've craved fruit juices, ice, ice water, fresh fruit, and popsicles! :)
Kerina 08-04-2006, 09:45 AM OH, I forgot about that. With my first two I would freeze pitchers of water until it just crystallized on the edges and scrape a big glass of them. I wanted thin ice... ice from the machine wasn't good enough.
The pimento stuffed green olives sounds awful!
Never heard of ranch being unsafe. I'm sure it contains vinegar, which would cook eggs if they are raw. I did hear that "traditional" caesar contains raw eggs, but you won't find it like that in most bottles. More like fancy restaurants.
Just saw you were from Australia. Maybe the US has a different recipe???
Madre 08-04-2006, 09:49 AM I craved ice in my last pregnancy. I would fill up a huge glass with ice cubes and just crunch away. However, I think this is some kind of vitamin/mineral deficiency so you might check with your dr.
Crissyanna 08-04-2006, 02:27 PM I craved ice last week, but then I was temporairliy living where the heat index was at least 115 degrees outside. I wonder why we got pregnant in January?
Recently I've been craving a lot of pasta. Italian food stuff. Two weeks ago when I was on a break from caring for my MIL, I was home and absolutely NEEDED the cheese ravioli from Fazoli's along with bread sticks. We pull into the parking lot, and the manager was outside talking to a guy with a clip board. The manager was saying, "so you are saying that we are shut down?" as we were walking up to the door. The guy with the clip board says "I"m afraid so." So, the manager turned to Peter and I as we were approaching and says rather hurridly that the electricity was out and there was no way they could cook anything that night. We head back to the car and notice that the car the guy with the clip board got into was from our city, and had health department labled on the side of it, and it had health department plates (must be nice, the health dept. I worked at in IL never got that luxury....but I digress). So, we wonder, was the electricity really out? Needless to say, we aren't going to go to Fazoli's for a while around here. Just to be safe. We ended up at KFC. Not even close to what I wanted.
Kerina 08-04-2006, 02:53 PM I craved ice in my last pregnancy. I would fill up a huge glass with ice cubes and just crunch away. However, I think this is some kind of vitamin/mineral deficiency so you might check with your dr.
It's iron. But I think I was just always so hot.
Sweets and chocolate! (But I restrain myself and only have a bit of a craved food if I get desperate.)
And this is really weird for me, first because I've never had cravings as part of my monthly PMS, and second because I was so into health food b4 getting pregnant that I couldn't even stand sweets. But sometimes during my 1st tri, cookies and fruit juice was all I could get (and keep!) down.

breezykc2 08-08-2006, 10:30 AM You know the statement..."the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"....that's how my cravings have gone! I have DESPERATELY wanted everything on my "do not eat" list! Hot dogs, lunch meat, tuna, seafood, diet pop! Oy! The will power of saying know to temptation leaning on the doorbell! I force myself to pass Sonic everytime and not order a herd of footlong chilli/cheese conies/hotdogs! LOL I think that's what I'll eat first after delivery! I will send my Mom for one immediatly! Last time I asked my hubby to go get me pizza after delivery because I so desperatly wanted it after not being allowed to eat and in labor for 32 hours....and that goat refused and said it wasn't necessary! The pain of not getting my reward of pizza for all that work was almost more painful than 32 hours of labor without any pain killers or epidurals! I learned my lesson....send your parents, they spoil you a LOT more!

I desperately wanted to eat a lemon the other night but I had bad reflux and no mylanta to sooth it, so DH was like "The lemon is the last thing you need right now"... so I resisted the tormenting urge to eat one
ROTF!
sdsams 08-10-2006, 10:29 AM During the 1st trimester, I craved pizza for a while. Then my biggest craving was for slushes/icees. I loved the cherry slushy from Sonic or SunDrop slushes from gas stations. I still love having them. Now, here at the end of my 2nd trimester, I'm craving chocolate.
Crissyanna 08-10-2006, 03:56 PM Stacy, have you had the cheery icee float at Burger King? I craved a cherry icee a while back and tried that. It was incredible. It is a cherry icee with soft serve vanilla mixed in. It was wonderful!
AussieMum, I've wanted lemons too! Glad to know I'm not alone in that one. It grosses my poor husband out horribly, and he normally talks me out of it too because of the heartburn factor.
I craved hot wings like there was no tomorrow in the beginning. And pepperoni, and peppers. Anything hot and spicy. Still do, but I try not to eat it because of the heartburn. I have loved Taco Bell and Dr. Pepper since I got pregnant. And I will not touch either with a ten foot pole when I'm not pregnant. In fact, we had that last night for dinner. My husband loves it, but I don't normally, so if I say I am even remotely thinking of Taco Bell or Dr. Pepper, he is quick to oblige since he isn't sure if I'll still like it after Dainyah is born.

No, I haven't tried that, but will have to. I have a BK close to the house. :)
It sounds like you all have SOOOO MUch more things at your Burger King than we do here! Its unfair! I want a Cherry Ice!
Renee - do you like WENDY's (as in the burger joint) I LOVED that in NZ and England, but no Wendy's here!
MMM i could do with a wendy burger right now
What about Georgie Pie, do you eat there?
Crissyanna 08-10-2006, 09:45 PM Do they sell icees at gas station in Austrailia? I hope you don't go crazy thinking of that now.
And what is a Georgie Pie?
I want candy of some sort right now, not sure exactly what I want, but I should be good and go eat some yogurt instead.
stephwhiz 08-10-2006, 09:46 PM Okay I'm not pregnant but I was craving Creme Horns and just ate one  . Had to share that! Sorry for interrupting your thread. Stephanie :D
BlessedMommy 08-10-2006, 10:48 PM I love things cold and frozen! Hubby and I had to very strictly tell ourselves that we would go broke if we continued to buy popsicles and eat them at that rate, so we're now strictly saving the popsicles for labor.
I love popsicles too! Especially calipo pineapple and raspberry mmm.
And I don't care what anyone says, I am going to eat a lemon right now
:P
Raspberries are my whole world now LOL LOL. I can't get enough of them
What is it with all these sour cravings?
emilyrosejewel 08-17-2006, 10:22 PM I have been craving such bad things--hamburgers, pizza, corn dogs, grapico, ice cream etc. All bad things. I also have an aversion to a lot of good things like spinach and salad. I used to love a good spinach salad, but can't stand the thought of it now. I just hope this kinda stuff passes in a couple of weeks, I am 10 weeks pregnant now. I don't need to eat all this crazy stuff otherwise I will gain a million pounds.
I think fatty food is quite a common craving, I was reading up on craving on the internet and the medical profession still doesn't exactly know WHY we have them, since if it was all about what the body needed for health we would all be graving spinach and watermelon
Has anyone ever suffered from PICA?
Crissyanna 08-17-2006, 11:11 PM I didn't fare too badly on pizza and pepperoni cravings. In fact, a lot of times, it was all I could keep down. Strange, I know.
No pica for me.
Crystal
When DH and the kids eat pepperoni & salami (as in not on a pizza so its uncooked cut off the hob, so I don't eat it)... I stand by smelling it wishing so bad I could eat it.
However I do order it on pizza as it's been put through an oven.
