Hi-when did you all start feeding your babies only three bottles a day? Our dd is 10.5 mths and her second nap is getting so late that it's getting harder to get the last 2 in before bedtime. I read something about 2.5 oz of formula for every pound of body weight, but she is taking nowhere near that and seems fine. Doctor said at least 24 oz per day, and if I cut out one bottle, that is where we would be at. It's really nice now, because I have been here before moaning about her not napping, but now she has started taking usually 1.5 to 2 hr naps! I started praying recently, "LORD, help her get the sleep she needs today so she's not cranky, has a bad night..." and He did! Praise the LORD! So...it's really a good problem about her naps, but how did you all do it? Is she too little for just 3 bottles?

Hi. My ds is 10 1/2 months also. And while we don't use bottles, there are some days he only nurses three to four times. Sometimes at the end of the day I'll think, "Gosh, he hardly nursed at all!" But, I am just following his cue. He is a healthy boy, so I am not worried. I'm sure your baby is getting enough nurishment if your doctor didn't say anything. They are growing up so fast :( !

My son is 9 1/2 months old and he is still taking 4 bottles but his 3:00 bottle is getting less and less by his own choosing...he just won't finish even a 6 oz bottle..usually it is about 4 oz. I am thinking I will cut it out and make it a water or juice offering instead of the bottle as he really likes his older sister's juice cup anyway.

My book that I refer to says to keep 4 till a year old but if I remember correctly with my dd we didn't make it that long either... I think if they are cutting it out themselves and as long as they are getting enough between other meals and maintaining enough fluids that one has to be flexible in feeding.

Good luck with making your decision.

Thanks. See, I can't remember what I did with our first. That 2.5 oz for every pound seems like too much, because she already weighs over 20 lbs! She'd have to be taking a lot of formula in! What I've been doing is stepping the 3pm bottle down...today it was 4 oz. I thought about maybe going to a cup for this one soon. we'll see.
Thanks!

Well, I just took my ds in for a wellness check yesterday and his pediatrition says that he is doing great! He takes 4 and sometimes 5 8oz. bottles/day and weighes 25 lbs.!! LOL

I say just go by what your baby seems to need. She will let you know if she is getting too much or not enough.

Definitely go with your baby's signals, which it sounds like you're already doing. She knows what she needs. My son is 9 1/2 months old and he is still taking 4 bottles but his 3:00 bottle is getting less and less by his own choosing...he just won't finish even a 6 oz bottle..usually it is about 4 oz. I am thinking I will cut it out and make it a water or juice offering instead of the bottle as he really likes his older sister's juice cup anyway.I've read somewhere to stay away from juice till they're at least 12mos. Water is really all they need, as long as they're eating healthy.

 This thread made me realize that I never count, so I've been paying attention today  My 7 month old had four bottles today and one 1/2 juice and one water... She eats twice a day... I agree that you can just go by what baby seems to need.
