About how long do infants twitch? My DS doesn't twitch when we are asleep in bed at night (that I notice anyway), but during the day he seems to twitch in his sleep a lot. Is this normal? I did ask the nurse when we were in the hospital about his twitching and she said it was normal, but he is 3 weeks now... I hope it's still normal???

If you're talking about simple little body twitches in the arms, fingers, toes, etc..., sounds like your baby is only experiencing what everyone does during stage one and (especially) REM stage sleep. It's totally normal, girlfriend. He may suddenly jerk and gasp, then stir a bit before falling into a deeper sleep.. all totally normal. It's believed that an infant's immature nervous system is actually developing more while asleep than during wakeful periods, and this may contribute to more active stage one and REM stages.

It's very normal and very healthy! Shows good development....lasts for different periods for different kiddos....usually subsides a lot by 6 months though for the majority of kids! Especially noticeable the first 3 to 5 months though in most! No worries!

I was going to say, my SIX year old still twitches, jerks and has spasms in sleep, which are all normal... it's really funny to watch sometimes. :)

We all do, to one degree or another. If ya don't think ya do, do a little study on stage one and REM sleep.
