View Full Version : I need an "anti-labor induction" plan. LOL.
BlessedMommy 07-31-2006, 01:11 PM I figured that some people, especially Preggos in the 3rd trimester would probably just about die laughing when they read my title. But I seriously am trying to avoid having this baby early. Here's why: when I first got my midwife, I knew that she was going on a vacation right before my due date. Hence, if I have the baby from now until about 6-7 days from now I will get her substitute. Now, I'm only 38 weeks, 5 days, but I know that babies are born at 38-39 weeks ALL THE TIME, and this worries me.
Does anyone have any suggestions of ways to decrease the chances that I'll go into labor within the next week?
Here's what I've been trying:
1) Staying well hydrated (dehydration concentrates the hormone that starts contractions)
2) Eating well with lots of protein, etc.
3) Making my hubby drive EVER SO SLOWLY down bumpy roads.
4) Resting a lot
5) Mentally telling myself that I'm NOT going to have this baby until August 8 or later.
If anyone has any suggestions, please spit them out! :) :)
Well wishes with that! I can understand your reasonings....However I find that actually wanting to have the baby worked for mine  She was 2 weeks late and even then they had to go in and get her..
If it were me, I'd just have a one on one with God about your concerns and ask Him to help you out...
stephwhiz 07-31-2006, 02:49 PM TMI -- don't be having "relations" with you husband...sometimes it can speed up going into labor, like I'm sure relations is the main thing on your mind right now! Stephanie [rofl]
Stay away from Licorice and Red Raspberry Leaf Tea??
Otherwise don't stress because that could bring on labor early
I don't think you will go into labor early though. My first was 2 weeks late and I had to be induced. Everyone I know has always gone overdue. Except for 1 lady. I was 25 days overdue  and my sister was 2 days overdue.
Relax and don't panic!

 yeah that seems to work! I think my case was the opposite. I was soooo freaked out about labor that she wasn't coming out  They had to induce me.
I was kinda wishing her to stay in and Paul was wishing her to come out. She was probably confused :?

I never saw this post before! [rofl] and I agree... it's probably the last thing on her mind! It definitely hasn't been on my mind  I only have less than 4 weeks to go. I can't hardly turn over in bed so yeah...
Ruth
Whenever someone goes into pre-term labour (not that you would be in pre-term labour) Doctors make them lay down (bed rest), so perhaps you could lay in bed and watch TV, read the bible, read books .... until the date.... not really practicle but aside from drugs, that;s how Dr's attempt to stop labour.

You two are too funny!! [rofl] [rofl]
Yep, what Steph said
Also, no curry or castor oil, they can bring on labour too
Castor oil? Is this really something Ruth needs to stay away from - I mean how many of us profess this to be a dietry favourite ROTF!
Ewwww.... why is there no green pukey face in the emoticons - *wink*
[rotfl]
Some people do take it - it's a good source of umm, I think vit. A. So, I guess, you pregnant ladies wouldn't be taking it anyway.
It's often recommended to start labour though - don't quite know why [whatcrazy]
JoyLynn 08-01-2006, 12:00 AM No jumping-jax, no sit-ups, no skydiving, and don't sneeze too hard. [rofl]
What? All the good ones were already taken! [rotfl] [rotfl] [rotfl]
[sheepjumpingrope] (this is also a no-no! [whatnaughty])

Kerina 08-01-2006, 12:05 AM Ok, I didn't know about the hydration or the curry. I went into labor at 26 weeks my 2nd time, never imagining anything could happen. This time, I'll be following all of these tips. The only thing I can say learning from my experience is rest and do not stress about a thing. And try not to sneeze, cough or laugh.
Good luck, Ruth.

Oh, AussieMum, you're killing me. You know, actually I religiously eat castor oil every morning at breakfast....JUST KIDDING! I wouldn't touch that stuff with a 10 foot pool, maybe a 40 foot pole! (Unless my midwife told me to take it because I was overdue) LOL.

Oh, Joy, you crack me up. Especially that icon of jump rope. I won't be doing any of those things! :) If nothing else, this thread was good for a good stress reducing laugh, since stress can trigger labor! ROTF
kanaclark 08-01-2006, 11:48 AM Hi! I'm 32 weeks, and recently started riding a stationary bike, and I've found that I have some "more like real" braxton hicks when I get done riding, so NO BIKING!
But, you know, Girl, you're so worried about going early, the baby will be late, just cause that's the way kids are, LOL.
Good luck
wcarbone 08-01-2006, 11:53 AM No pedicures. When the message your legs if they hit a curtain spot it is suppose to case labor.
Not sure if it does, but someone told me that when I was pregnant.

Uh, yeah, Kana, you're right! I had already discontinued biking (my midwife advised it because of my altered balance) and I remember that when I biked in late pregnancy, my uterus felt like it was having one long hard BH contraction!

I read somewhere that as surely as you plan for yours to come late, it'll come early! LOL. :) :) Kids have a way of not doing what they're told. Haha. If the baby does come early I'll have to have a talk with him/her about respecting his/her elders. ROTF.
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 11:49 AM Well, the baby's still in here! And my midwife gets back from vacation on Monday! So unless the baby has some very direct, specific plans to get busy over the weekend, we should be alright! :)
JoyLynn 08-04-2006, 02:32 PM I'm so excited for you, Ruth! Your time is so close now. Before you know it, you'll be holding you tiny little girl. I'm a little jealous of you right now, and a little nostalgic, too. Two of my girls were born this week, Aug 2 and Aug 7, so I'm already feeling deja view. Blessings to you and your Hannah (hubby, too).
Is your nursery ready?
[heart] [heart]
Joy [welcomewave]
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 04:13 PM Yep, soon and very soon! Actually we're not sure which new family member is showing up! It may be little Hannah or little Stephen, we'll know soon! :)
The baby's nursery is pretty much all the bedrooms of the house, lol. I have some of his/her stuff in each room! :) So, yeah, I guess you could say that I'm ready!
I'll bet that you love to hear all the pregnancy/baby stories, Joylynn! I'll be sure to post my birth story when I get a chance.
cjropher 08-04-2006, 07:42 PM Ruth, I noticed you've been ROTF quite a bit. That could bring on labour too you know! Better watch it!
BlessedMommy 08-04-2006, 07:50 PM [massofsmilies] Hehe.
I will never try Castor Oil. It can be dangerous for the baby. I remember reading an article in a magazine about a baby that passed meconium and inhaled it into his lungs or something and was VERY sick he almost died. Apparently castor oil can upset babys tummy and yours as well  and everyone I know has been told by their midwife not to try it.
But then I know a couple of women that have tried it and it worked and it gave them the runs but it didn't hurt their baby. :?
KANA - you go stationary biking! Girlfriend, I can barely cope with walking around the grocery store let alone stationary biking! How do you even climb aboard????
Ruth - forgot to mention... you need to quit the rodeo circuit until your midwife comes back 'k? I am suprised she suggested it as a valid form of prenatal fitness regeme!
On this birth show I watched the obstetrician said that labour is triggered by the babies head pressing on the uterus, so just LAY DOWN... drink lots of water... OR.... STAND ON YOUR HEAD!
Love Aussie Mum

BlessedMommy 08-10-2006, 10:52 PM Well, no worries about going early now! All's good to go, we're just hoping that the kiddo doesn't show up too late.
Drink lots of red raspberry leaf tea! ;) Or eat black licorice!
I went 2 weeks over with Abby. My midwife has told me this time to be prepared to go to 42 weeks and then if I deliver on time then it will be a nice surprise LOL I am actually hoping to go into labour before 40 weeks but I doubt that will happen
BlessedMommy 08-10-2006, 11:00 PM Yep, I'm chugging red raspberry leaf tea like there's no tomorrow! I'm already effacing and dilating though, so I'm hoping that it's not too long from now!
 well if you are dilating already then I'm sure it won't be long! I don't think you'll be 2 weeks over like I was ....
