Well mothers will say YES... and I am for the mothers opinions but on a documentary last night they said "There is no proof, and no"
(ignorant medical school graduates! WHat would they know ROTF)

My mom's got smaller and I've known of others that got smaller, including a lady who had a 10 pounder the 2nd time around. Her 3rd one was under 8 pounds.

Our first was 8 pounds 6 oz at 38 weeks, and our second was 8 pounds 3 oz at 39 weeks, so, not much difference at all :D

Our second son had a bigger head though ......

It's funny, when I've told people that, they ask by how much. Second son's head was bigger by 1.5cm (about 2/3 of an inch.) They usually reply "Oh, 1 1/2 cm isn't that much." I just answer "Hey, when you're talking about birthing a baby, and the circumference of their head, 1.5 cm is huuuuuuuge!"

Generally babies get bigger because the uterus has stretched more each time and it stretches more easily and gives the baby more room. BUT I know lots of moms who had the same size baby each and every time or about. It simply depends. If you have had two and the second was bigger than the first it might be that you will tend to be that way. Of course different issues with each pregnancy can change your tendency. If you get gestational diabetes for instance or if you have placental issues. :P

Please don't be afraid. I was terrified for my fourth as I had gotten increasingly bigger with each. The third was 9# 11 oz and I had gone up 1-2 pounds for each baby previously. I didn't want a 12 pounder! But God gave me peace about 2 weeks out after some prayer and bible reading. Psalm 34! And then our last was the only one born early. He was born 10 days early and weighed 8# 1 oz. He would have likely been over 10 had he gone to term or slightly over. God will be faithful no matter what! [girlsmiley]

Generally but not always  I'll pray that you don't have a 10lbr! I'm also a little anxious about how big Sophie will be. Abby was 8lbs 3ozs.

I was 7lbs something and my sister was only 6lbs something. So it isn't always the case

I am having this same fear!!

My first was 7lb 14oz and then my second was 9lb 12oz... If we follow that trend I could be looking at an 11+ baby!!

Oh and both of my babies were two weeks early... which makes it even scarier for me! How can you have an almost 10lb baby that is two weeks early!!!???

bekah.... Did they test you for gestaional diabetes??? maybe thats why they were bigger, or just genes...

Yup.... I was tested and it was normal both times..

I also worry but my first (Abby) was 8lbs 3ozs... I'm hoping I don't have a 10lbr. My dad wished it on me recently (I think either he or his brother weighed almost 11lbs) and I told him "don't do that!"

Don't they test all pregnant women for gestational diabetes? :? I've been tested both times.

Leslie that completely makes sense (about the uterus stretches easier etc).

Joylynn, my boy was quite a bit bigger than my girl - everyone would comment "well he got the lions share" ha ha.

You know one thing I really think the health department/midwives should quit telling mothers is that "smoking causes low birth weight" because I know for a fact, statistically speaking and well known around town is that some women deliberately smoke to get a smaller baby so the baby is "easier" to deliver. Watched a programme on it once.

Personally, I believe they should just tell Mothers to be "because it's bad for the baby"... they are giving TMI.

I agree but they probably already know it anyway. Because I've had smokers tell me before that smoking keeps you slim. I don't know why anyone would do that and risk their babies health/safety in the first place.
